Acute kidney failure took Olla from us at 2 yrs. of age. We treasure the time that we were able to spent with her. Her cattle herding skills improved immensely as she matured and regrettably we did not shoot any more video. R.I.P OLLA
I have worked cowcamp jobs for years in Colorado and Wyoming and one of the first places I worked I had a German Shepard that I trained and used to work the cows and was one of the better cowdogs that I've had but made it hard to get a job because most people don't know that they are a herding dog mine was great for rough cattle and would bit their heads and make them do what they were supposed to do when he was asked to
I didn't watch the entire video--the camera was so shaky that I thought I would get nauseated! Yes, the dog did seem a little distracted but she was only 10 months old! She was still a puppy and puppies are easily distracted. I have a 3 year old German shepherd who I'm training in agility. I am also very interested in trying herding. He loves to chase things (balls, his feline roommates) which I attribute to him being a herding breed. He also seems to have a phenomenal nose and loves using it when we go for walks. If we get into herding, I'm sure the first few times out he's going to be distracted by all the interesting smells. The people who criticized the dog's herding skills, either didn't realize she was a puppy, have never trained a dog (especially a puppy), or are simply uninformed.

Most people aren't very smart. How do they not know they're herding dogs? It's in the name ffs.
