    2014 R on my way home after a 4 day dirt ride suddenly had no power. (roughly 20k KM on it) Running rough but still moving with little power. Limping home I stopped for 2 hours and then the the bike ran normal. Contacted my KTM dealer (RAD in South Africa) and they said the fuel filter will be clogged. It looks like a tea bag on the side of the fuel pump. Stripped the pump out and the filter looked black compared to the new one. Replaced it and have not had another problem since. Now at 52k KM. I do my own servicing and my dealer gave me free advice when I changed the shims at 30k KM.
    Probably that was all that was wrong with yours in the first place. When your dealer changed the pump they would have seen the dirty filter. I think I picked up some bad fuel at the last fill up. I will park this bike in my living room on the day I can no longer ride ❤

      It really is a fantastic machine… the longer you own it the more familiar you will become with it.
      Will go at any repairs in the future myself, and if I can’t fix it I’m sure one of my friends could.
      Thanks for watching 🍻

    glad you are rolling again. had a similar engine experience with my 1190 remedied by changing the two filters attached to the fuel pump. one theory is that once the bike is laid down fuel can travel over to the charcoal evap system and pull the dust into the tank, eventually clogging the filters. my tank was loaded with very fine black particulates. what a bike though, i don't think i'll ever willingly part with it.

      Hmm 🤔 I can see how that could cause the issue.

    I’m having the same issue. I HATE taking my vehicles to the shop so I do a deep dive online and try to fix them myself. I just replaced the fuel pump and filters…. still doing it. I’m going to replace the fuel pressure regulator. I KNOW you guys don’t like throwing money at problems but the fuel pump is a known problem and I kept my OEM pump as a spare. It was greatly cheaper than sending it to the dealer. I’ll post my results…. Thanks for the video

      I replaced fuel pump with quantum pump, had same partial power again then spent more money and time buying a guglatech pump assembly from Italy and tank filter sock thing so now it rips 100% with quantum and guglatech combo. I also left that top filter in the pump assembly out. Btw I NEVER had fuel pump errors just power lose if more than 40% throttle. Debating on used 21+ 1290s and multiv4.

    Sounds like it did more sitting at the dealer vs being worked on. Seems today that dealers have too much service and not enough qualified techs. I bought a 1090 in 19' ... first week it started cutting out and would lose all power. Simple research picked up on that these are very sensitive to bad fuel. Recommended to the dealer to replace the fuel filters, which they did and the bike ran great until approx. 4000 miles ... then the fuel pump died. Replaced the fuel pump with a Quantum from Rottweiler and a filter system from Guglatech. Bike hasn't missed a beat since ....

    Thanks for this video. I have the same bike, can't see myself selling it. It just makes too many smiles!!! Hopefully I never have to experience what you did but now I know what to aim for if it does what your did. I did have the oil pressure sender give up and it cuts the motor. Very easy to replace, it's all together with the oil filler pipe. 1190r just has an extension to get out to the crash frame. All 1190's have the same sender. Hopefully that's some info that's useful to you. Adam, Australia

    She is back!. Thanks for the updated video. We'll if you think about it probably the problem could have been fix with little money but of course the dealer once they charged for all the stuff that most likely didn't need to be done they won't take it back. After my ride to Colorado, I got to appreciate this beast way more. I love mine the only thing is that I have to be very careful once I stop moving because I have even more height issues than you, but unless I take a cruiser off road I will still have those issues. take care and thank you.

    I had a fuelling problem where the engine would rev, and managed to cure it by reseating the fuel disconnect. But a few months later the same problem recurred and I put a new fuel pump in, which seems to have sorted it at least for the moment. Not sure where that pressure regulator sits, I couldn't see one in the fuel pump assembly.

    • @AdventureTomek
      @AdventureTomek  ปีที่แล้ว +1

  • @infinityphotorob
    @infinityphotorob ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Man this is good to know. It also confirms my opinion on dealers. Mine starts hard if sitting for a few days and runs sorta crappy for a few min. I wonder if it is just the fuel injection system and just how the 1190 is? Maybe it is the Rottweiler intake without fuel dongles or power commander? Did you do fuel dongles on your bike? And this video confirms my funny intake noise with the intake. It is like another exhaust sound in your lap.

    • @AdventureTomek
      @AdventureTomek  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I did dongles, not the power commander.
      Quantum fuel systems sells the fuel pressure regulator for around $50.

    I had a 2 week trip to Canada from San Antonio that I had planned for 6 months. The day I was leaving, the bike wouldn’t start!! Unbelievable. Just cranking and cranking, but no bang. I had just filled up the tank the night before and it was perfect. After confirming I had spark, I was puzzled to find out it was the fuel pump because it was priming upon ignition (key on). I ended up buying a Quantum fuel pump ASSEMBLY. Take the factory one out and put the new one in. Pretty simple. 2 months and 2500 miles later I get the “fuel pump failure” message on the dash and my bike died at a light! Quantum sent me a new one right away, but now I don’t trust their fuel pump or KTM’s. I just love my bike and don’t want to get rid of it. 2016 1190R

    • @AdventureTomek
      @AdventureTomek  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Unfortunately for some reason KTM ran some crap parts on these bikes.

    • @WoZIMoo
      @WoZIMoo 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      My 990 was bogging down and stalling so I tried Quantum too. The filter kit was fine, some parts didn't fit right and seemed cheap. The new Quantum pump starting making a high pitched noise after 3 rides. Put back the OEM pump and no problems since. Quantum pumps seem to be rather crappy, wouldn't trust them even with their lifetime warranty. What is a lifetime warranty worth anyways when your bike dies in the middle of nowhere? KTM fuel pump issues are related to the filters most of the time and not the pump itself from what I've heard. Unless your pump has been heavily compromised, filters will solve most problems.

    Hi. I have been waiting for this video for a while. And appreciate your honesty In the issues that you encountered. Unfortunately, the timing was crap to say the least. And I feel that you would have been able to have solved the issue If you had the time. I have to say that I am frustrated with the dealers regardless of who they are just throwing parts at the problem and not actually having the skills to diagnose the problem and charging the clients for Poor diagnosing Ability. They should have these parts on the shelf. To swap out to help Diagnose the issue. Something should be said to KTM head office. I think you are being too kind to give them An out with the injectors. Did they give you back your injectors? It would be very telling if they didn't. On a lighter note, I want your father's contact number as I would like for him to put you over his knee for the abuse that you gave to the Motoz GPS tire. As I was also looking forward to your review of it. PS. FROM A GRUMPY OLD MAN FROM NZ😆😆

      I gotta say my expectations were a bit higher for dropping it off at a dealer that should know these bikes in and out, they obviously don’t have the right trained technicians working on the bikes. Never got the injectors back, did not even think it ask for them at the time.
