I am a big champion of right to self determination and wish this was given to Kashmir when Nehru promised it in UN. But the right of self determination is not absolute, right to basic human rights and dignity ( core of Sikh philosophy and sacrifice trumps right to self determination) because Punjab is divided between 60-40 Hindu Sikh identity and is fluid in identity as both intermarry and have fluid beliefs. In such circumstances forcing self determination is asking for tearing down social cohesion and peace witch goes even beyond even human rights because it will lead to a civil war

1. He was not the enemy of Hindus, but Indian govt. portrayed him as enemy of Hindus. He generally says if a person reads Holy Gita or Ramayan every day, that hindu person is my real brother. Not the Hindu who eats meat or use tobacco or alcohol.
Bhindranwale was the no. enemy of Russia at that time. Because russians want to envade Punjab & punjabis were religious people. Russian used Indira gandhi for it.
2. People says why Bhindranwale followers have guns. Well guns are the part of Sikh religion.. Many government comes & goes Sikhs remained Armed. Mugals, Afghans, Turks attack India. And they meet with sikhs guarding the western side of India. At that time nobody says why Sikhs have guns or swords? But after Indepences everyone talks about guns.
Indian govt. did huge mistake at that time.
3. Bhindranwale never said he wants Khalistan. He wants some 12 to 15 things from the govt. to accept & approve, but gov. didn't approve. But later years India govt. approved lot of those requests.

I am a big champion of right to self determination and wish this was given to Kashmir when Nehru promised it in UN. But the right of self determination is not absolute, right to basic human rights and dignity ( core of Sikh philosophy and sacrifice trumps right to self determination) because Punjab is divided between 60-40 Hindu Sikh identity and is fluid in identity as both intermarry and have fluid beliefs. In such circumstances forcing self determination is asking for tearing down social cohesion and peace witch goes even beyond even human rights because it will lead to a civil war

1953 nehru disbanded pepsu which was run by Sikhs under giani rarewale. 1955 nehru launched attack on darbar sahib to stop punjabi suba movement. 1950s was also the time leaders and some Sikh princely states ( nabha, jind,etc) proposed to attack pakistan and capture lahore and former sikh lands in west punjab but nehru intervenued saying he wanted peace between india and pakistan. Nehru and indian establishment has always been against Sikhs rights and sovereignty. 1953 is the real start of khalistan movement in india when racist Sikhaphobe nehru aliented Sikhs. Also in secret archives it has been exposed nehru didnt want the braveheart Sikh regiment in 1948 kashmir to fight tribal pasthun jihaadis and pakistani invading armed forces who were massacaring Sikhs and hindus there.
