  • Join the UK Collaborative Centre for Housing Evidence (CaCHE) for an in-depth panel discussion on the findings of a pivotal study focused on the future of housing in Govan. This project, developed in collaboration with the University of Glasgow, Glasgow City Council, and local housing associations, explores Govan's housing challenges and opportunities.
Once a thriving community, Govan has experienced significant depopulation, yet it remains a key employment centre, home to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital and a shipbuilding hub. With many new developments and improved connectivity-such as the new bridge linking Govan and Partick-the area faces a unique opportunity to steer housing development for long-term social and economic benefit.
    What will the discussion cover?
The factors driving Govan’s housing system and how they compare to the wider Glasgow market.
Analysis of current housing stock, private rental sector dynamics, sales trends, and the impact of new infrastructure, such as the Glasgow Riverside Innovation District (GRID) and the Transforming Communities: Glasgow (TC) project.
The role of local community-controlled housing associations in shaping the area’s future.
Sustainable regeneration and job creation for residents.
This study also introduces a Localised Housing Systems Analysis (LHSA) approach, assessing the viability of applying a citywide framework to a smaller, well-defined sub-council area like Govan. The discussion will explore the significance of this methodology for planning housing interventions in Glasgow’s localities.
    Speakers
Prof Ken Gibb (University of Glasgow)
    Matt McNulty (Glasgow City Council)
    Irene Macfarlane (Linthouse Housing Association)
David Bookbinder (Glasgow & West of Scotland Forum of Housing Associations)
Dr Nicholas Harrington (University of Glasgow)
