      @@lcfflc3887 Yes,though agreed by all parties something feels unethical, or maybe even criminal. If the other guy bidding was a flake (how do we know who he/she..they? was), then it has to negate the whole auction, It may as well have been the original owner bidding it up to the point Jimmy was maxed out. Who was the other bidder? Even if the parties then agreed a contract, it feels like a scam, even if unwittingly (Is that a thing?) Jimmy was pushed to make a quick decision. I worked in the airline industry at a 145 repair station years ago and have seen many aircraft in various stages of repair/disrepair. The airplane in this video is worth about 20k in scrap despite it's history and the old electronic equipment that still remain. It would cost at least 500k to make it presentable and airworthy again. Other than Elvis' name on the paperwork there isn't much to physically tie him to it. I think he was seriously taken advantage of at the very least.

      I agree 100% that it's a parts plane that's about worth your estimate including maybe a few rare parts. Where I disagree is your estimate of $500K to make it presentable AND airworthy. Maybe presentable, meaning painted, stuffed and mounted somewhere, but airworthy? Never. I think the estimates of $5-6M are low and I'll bet $1 the airframe is unrepairable therefore making it a $250K doorstop. 40-year sitting with no PM, rust, rot, and rats. It would have to be torn completely apart, new avionics, new updated engines, new paint/interior, new everything. That sounds like $8-10M to me.

Then probably a few hundred grand in just transportation fees hauling the thing around.. Elvis has been gone for a long time.. His hard-core fans that would actually pay money to spend the night in his jet or go to a museum to see it are past their prime to be nice about it.. This thing is only worth scrap value, and that's why it's been sitting in the desert rotting away for all these years.. @@MarkLada Paint jobs for jets of that size go for around 70 grand, but that's for an airworthy paint job. I'm sure it could get done for much cheaper and ok looking if the jet is just a ground based museum piece. The seller (previous owner) had paid almost 500 grand for it, so he lost a big chunk of money on the plane. Jimmy will have a difficult time making his investment back, but who knows, maybe some Elvis collector would want it after a nice cosmetic restauration. In the meantime, Jimmy has amazing content for his channel, maybe he can also sell some scrap parts of the plane without destroying it's general appearance, run a restauration fundraiser, who knows... it may get enough attention from Jimmy's viewers that some museum might want to display it. But yeah, overall still probably a loss for Jimmy. And I agree, the auctioneers seemed shady...

      @@scott-in-dfw3005 I'm sorry but, are you lost? What does that have to do with my comment? Absolutely nothing! Let's use actual logic to access the situation. If this aircraft was some basic aircraft used by the airlines then it would only be worth the scrap value. However this is an extremely rare aircraft and it was owned by one of the most famous and most recognizable people who has ever lived. So, it's worth way more than you realize. Jimmy hasn't said that he will restore it to flying condition. He could easily turn it into a museum piece that would make it worth way more than his investment. One very important thing is the location in which it has been stored. The desert environment is perfect for keeping aircraft in the best condition possible. That's why the military and the airlines keep their aircraft stored there, albeit with more protection. Lastly can you, Mr Scott, provide us with a history of your expertise in restoring aircraft? As soon as any auction house rings you, they are "keen" to get your money as they are unlikely to get the same amount again, if they thought they could get more money elsewhere they would just re-auction it. They must have been laughing all the way to the bank.....although the excitement of finding all that stuff...priceless :) (maybe)

    • @TheCruisinCrew
      @TheCruisinCrew ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They must have been on the hook to pay the seller for their mistake. Then the auction house owns the jet and would likely lose more money if they put it up for auction again... but yeah, the whole deal reeked of scammy vibes.

    I am also a pilot, but had a heart attack and open heart surgery about (6) months ago, so I guess my piloting days have come to an abrupt end.
    You have got to be one of the bravest men that I know of
    to buy such a " pig in the poke" for so much money, then to see that you basically purchased a shell of an airplane, and you did not break down an cry your eyes out!
    So, Elvis owned it for a while, but others owned it before and after him!
    The people who let that plane get into such disrepair should be jailed and fined for such ignorance, and disrespect!
    I hope you are able to restore that plane to its former beauty and social status!

    Hi Jimmy…looks like on the surface you were scammed. Watching the video where he called you for secondary offer, i did hear him tell you he was now the owner for $X then you wanted time to think if you wanted it…..no you didn’t, you wanted time to mentally structure a deal where you would not be hurt. We do it all the time. Next screen shot you are excited because you used one of your cookie cutter formats and he took it. Now you are in the drivers seat especially if irregularities can be proven. The deal will get better. I think I see how this is headed. Nicely done ! Stay safe.
