It is a scary thing. It is true that if you look at it, you will find it to be a huge amount, but with the increasing number of people and the increasing demand for resources, the most important of which is fresh water.

In the perspective of the Earth, the ocean is just a very thin layer of water on its surface. And yes, even with every bit of ice melted and all the water in every corner of the ocean, it would still form an impossibly thin coating
For those saying it isn't accurate: To calculate the diameter of a sphere, we need to know its volume. The estimated volume of water on Earth is about 1.332 billion cubic kilometers. The formula to calculate the volume of a sphere is V = (4/3) * π * r^3, where V is the volume and r is the radius of the sphere. To find the radius, we rearrange the formula as follows: r = (3V / (4π))^(1/3). Substituting the volume of water on Earth into the formula, we get: r = (3 * 1.332 billion / (4 * π))^(1/3) ≈ 637.1 kilometers. Finally, to find the diameter, we multiply the radius by 2: diameter = 2 * r ≈ 2 * 637.1 ≈ 1,274.2 kilometers. Therefore, the diameter of a sphere that would contain all the water on Earth would be approximately 1390 kilometers.
some people are saying that it doesn't seem like a lot of water, but when you think about it...imagine looking up and seeing a huge sphere of water that you can't see the end of no matter how hard you look that's bigger than some countries
People, although the size may seem small, thar is a LOT of water. That sphere of water is over 850 miles across. Imagine traveling through water at a speed of 100 miles per hour. It would take you well over 8 hours to get from one side to the other traveling in a straight line!😳

Same thing if you crush a paper. It will shrink or reduce area. So don't expect it to be a huge water sphere.
not really shrink

For those saying it isn't accurate:
To calculate the diameter of a sphere, we need to know its volume.
Substituting the volume of water on Earth into the formula, we get:
r = (3 * 1.332 billion / (4 * π))^(1/3) ≈ 637.1 kilometers.
Finally, to find the diameter, we multiply the radius by 2:
diameter = 2 * r ≈ 2 * 637.1 ≈ 1,274.2 kilometers.
Therefore, the diameter of a sphere that would contain all the water on Earth would be approximately 1390 kilometers.

I’ll simplify it. If the Earth is the size of a basketball, the depth of the ocean will be as thin as a sheet of paper or a thousandth of an inch.

People, although the size may seem small, thar is a LOT of water. That sphere of water is over 850 miles across. Imagine traveling through water at a speed of 100 miles per hour. It would take you well over 8 hours to get from one side to the other traveling in a straight line!😳
Aiight, Neil DeGrass Tyson
Road trip?
But it would take just over 1.5 hours to travel through the sphere of fresh water. That’s not a lot to go around 7bn people.
@@Lucifurion Two things you have not taken into consideration. 1. Fresh water is being replenished via rainfall everyday, all over the world. 2. Salt water can be desalinated into fresh water. Where do you think ships get all of that water from for passengers to drink, take showers, and use the bathroom? The salt is removed and purified while the ship is at sea.
That’s still isn’t a lot
