Unfortunately he came across as too socially liberal, I would of reluctantly voted for someone more socially conservative, But as chancellor definitely 100% as I agree with him on tax and welfare and corporation/ business rates tax
I only noticed this guy for the first time hosting Continental Railway Journeys which is fabulous btw. Michael has a very clear calming effective voice and now I know why....he is a politician which I never knew until now.

Very intelligent man and would have been interesting had he not lost his seat in the 97 labour landslide as would at the very least lead the Tories in opposition and may well have beaten Blair in '05. May well have been PM earlier had he properly challenged Major in 95 but he appeared more happy to wound and not kill, a dishonourable position. A darling of the right and favourite of Thatcher but never quite hit the heights. If not PM, a very good Chancellor but Major had Clarke who was very good so, for the two top jobs, it wasn't to be and he fizzled out.

well, why does b.b.c. always pronounce french words, the french way with the exception of, say, paree? they never bother pronouncing german or keltic words the german or keltic way, do they? some of them even pronounce angela merkel's first name as ... anjella. oh, how common as muck is that? !
