This episode helps mark spidey as a true hero. He accepts that heroism isn’t always rewarding, aside from honor in doing the right thing

why this show was so great and Spiderman a great hero.
It always bugged me that they never put together that Pete was Spidey from this. Max has an accident he becomes Electro. Curt turns himself into the lizard. Pete runs home, Spidey shows up. Yet somehow Pete manages to take pictures without being seen. Since Spidey came first, it stands to reason he most likely came from that lab. Now if only they new someone who had an accident with one of their Spider expiriments.
For Peter’s sake be glad they didn’t
I think maybe Martha Conners knew. She said "I forgive you, but I can't trust you." Maybe this is alluding to the fact that he's lying about being a crazy powerful superhero. Kind of a stretch, but like you said, surely ONE of them pieced it together, right?
Well, in season 2, in one of the interviews, they finally did piece it together when Eddie/Venom tried to expose Peter as Spider-Man

This episode always doesn't make sense that curt conners wanna turn himself into a lizard
lizards can regenerate their limbs. Doctor Conners wanted to use that ability to get his hand back
Did you not watch this whole episode?! He wanted to use the lizard ability to regrow his arm; he never wanted to turn into a lizard. That had been Connor’s entire gimmick since the 60s man. He wanted the ability to regenerate not turn into a lizard.
Something tells me you didn’t get the whole point of the episode.
