      I felt fine even at 44°.
      But my temperature only spiked to that briefly which is apparently totally survivable. No doctor has verifed the cause of my fevers yet they come and go but this year I had prolonged fevers of 38.5 approaching 40° and spiking to 41 for up to 30 minutes which persisted for just over 3 months.
      They said it wasn't serious............
      And I got several opinions about it but because I was asymptomatic most of the time all the doctors wrote it off.

      Obviously not. The problem isn't that doctors aren't always right... It's that most of the ones I've seen demonstrate that they don't even know what they're doing at all.
      I have other medical problems some of which may increase my chances of getting serious fevers but the unreliable presence of some biological problems doesn't make my condition easy to diagnose. What should be fairly straightforward is when diagnostic imaging proved neurological damage that may impair thermoregulatory processes and this clear evidence is ignored completely.

      VariantAEC you sound like the kind of patient who gets on the doctors nerves to the point they will say anything to get you out of their office and not have you come back... I feel like I would hate a know-it-all too if I went to school for a decade and some kid came in and started telling me how to do my job. You want exceptional health care, then be prepared to pay exceptional health care prices. If you live in a place with free health care then you had better be prepared to wait a long ass time to see any specialists, especially if the doctors you’ve seen don’t find anything wrong with you, and put you down as a difficult patient.

      @@briansammond7801 I'm old and remember when "literally" was only used when the speaker meant a figure of speech literally. Example, I'm so hungry I could eat a horse. This is meant figuratively by any human speaker. But if a dragon said, "I could literally eat a horse right now," that would be correct usage. Having more white blood cells at night is not a figure of speech that is taken literally. But I do get that kids today just use the word to sound cool and that now it means anything you want it to.

    • @briansammond7801
      @briansammond7801 5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@KittyBoom360 the use of "literally" does not just apply to figures of speech. If I eat an apple, I can say "I literally ate an apple", because that is what I actually did. Using "literally" simply means that you are NOT using figurative speech.
      You wrote "Having more white blood cells at night is not a figure of speech that is taken literally. "
      It's not a figure of speech at all; it is simply a declarative statement that is either true or false. It is true, and you are making such an assertion, then it is *literally* true. That is what "literally" means. It means that you are making a factual, non-figurative statement, and that you are explicitly making note of that fact.

    • @KittyBoom360
      @KittyBoom360 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@briansammond7801 "I ate an apple" is already a literal statement. You should only say that if others are figuratively eating apples and you want to be clear that you didn't just figuratively eat an apple like everyone else.

    Do nostrils really take turns being stuffed up or is that my imagination?

    • @o76923
      @o76923 5 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      Yes. The receptors for smell in your nose aren't uniformly distributed. Some smells are easier to detect deeper in than others.
      Your body's primary means of making sure that some particles get deep into your nose and others are closer to the entrance is by changing the speed at which air passes through your nostril. It does this by narrowing or widening the opening by having more or less blood pass through that side of your nose.
      Your body alternates which side gets which instead of just having one side be faster all the time (I think that has something to do with alternating between wide and narrow making it easier to remove blockages but I'm not positive).
      So, when you are sick and there's more gunk in your nose, it becomes more noticeable.

    TBH, I love the way I feel when I wake up drenched in sweat.
    I don't get sick very often, maybe once every three years, but those rare times I catch a good virus that really puts on a good show, I love it.
    It's such a pleasure to see my body working well. Most of the time, I can't directly observe the actions of my body. But the heavy night sweats during certain illnesses are a comforting reminder that everything is working

    Great video! On another note, I have been wondering about mosquitos; how many eggs do they lay? How many of those eggs mature to adulthood? How many of those adults find a meal in the wilderness? I know it's hard to calculate, but I'm hungry for percentages, proportions, etc. Also, what is the most common food for mosquitos? I figure that may vary by area, I'm thinking the Northeast mountains (Adirondacks, Appalachians, etc.). Best!

      Yeah but if youre a night owl then night is youre waking/day. I think this means more fever is worse at night if youre diurnal, as in youre waking hours are better and sleeping hours worse. Since youre more nocturnal naturally then youre fevers will be worse when you naturally want to sleep or usually are asleep. I'm more crepuscular like cats so ive got a foot in both worlds and feel different than both nocturnal & diurnal.
