The Layers of the Pulse - An Overview with Vasant Lad

In Ayurvedic medicine the pulse plays an important role in understanding a patient/client's state of being. In Vasant Lad's (BAM&S, MASc) lineage of Ayurvedic practice we believe there are 7 layers to the pulse - each offering insights into the Prakruti and the Vikruti of the patient, the state of each subtype of the doshas, the state of Prana, Tejas, and Ojas, and the state of each of the 7 bodily tissues.

Nadi Vighyan is such a phenomenal and sophisticated science. I have strong desire to specialize in this area of Ayurvedic Diagnosis along with other modalities. This in itself cane be so meditative when you do this on yourself or when you read others pulse. What a boon. I was with Dr Lad in Albuquerque back in 2016 along with 30 other Allopathic doctors, some of then super specialists, Most of them were there only for their own health and well being,

Correct me if I’m wrong, but I thought one could also separate the pulse according to the strength below each of the three fingers. The finger closest to the wrist being a measure of vata, the middle finger feelinf for pitta, and the finger closest to the heart, kapha.

Yes, that’s what I’ve learnt, I believe we go here into finer nuances as ultimately everything going on in your body-mind can be detected in pulse…

You said is true for only level 7, at which you can get your unique genetic code that is 'Prakruti'. But at level 1 the the finger closest to the wrist may show Pitta or Kapha according to diseases.
