Very very clear, noise free lessons. I'm a complete beginner but can follow and get something resembling those bass lines out of my bass. Great motivation. No silly intros and no 30 seconds bragging how well you can play before you even start.
Really cool riffs from my favorite band. As a guitarist just started up some bass playing I feel quiet comfortable with pick and hammer ons. The Taxman is really fun to play. Good video! 👌
Brilliant vid - Mark, you are spot on mate, McCartney’s ability on 4 strings is often overshadowed by that incredible songwriting gift. Let’s be honest, you could be here all day on Beatles/Macca basslines 🤣🙌🏻
Great lesson Mark. I want you ( She's so heavy) is a great song with a great bass line. Would have taken awhile to go through that one on its own. Look forward to the next instalment. Cheers
I got myself a Rogue Beatle bass for $150 from musicians friend for Christmas, just put on some La Bella flat wounds, set it up, intonated & was excited to try it out (I am a guitar player brand new to bass). With this great lesson, I was sounding like Sir Paul right away. Great fun!!! Thank you very much & you got a new subscriber, I'll be checking out more of your stuff!
My guess, in no particular order Something (easily one of the greatest bass lines ever) Hey Bulldog Penny Lane I Want You (She's So Heavy) Think For Yourself (Using a fuzz box along with his regular bass...unique for that time.)
A bit late here but damn, I Want You (She's So Heavy) has some awesome bass lines. It just sings. When I was looking for songs to learn I heard that bass and immediately picked it up and practice everyday as a starter!
I loved doing beatles covers for my channel but they all got blocked globally which was a shame really. Paul's work is so impressive that's its a shame someone (not youtube) takes down all the covers. Anyway liked the lesson. Not heard that rain track. I'll check it out.
I've been waiting for this lesson - thanks! Can't wait to see which 5 you picked! Penny Lane must be there but I'll hold out hope for Eight Days A Week too! Lol!
Eight days is pretty straight forward. Can you play it or is there something your not sure on and that's why you were hoping Mark would play it to help you? Penny Lane is a ripper too. Cheers
"Something", "Dear Prudence", "Hey Bulldog" or "I Saw Her Standing There" are three more examples of McCartney's genius bass works. And if we talk about Paul McCartney and Wings (or Macca on his own), we should mention "Goodnight Tonight", "Silly Love Songs", "Band On The Run" or "Momma Miss America".
Interesting thing that gives it the characteristic sound is that Paul does NOT pick the D at the beginning of the slide up in Come Together, only the 2 D's before and then slides without attacking.
Thanks for the awesome riffs! I've learned a simplified version of While My Guitar Gently Weeps, and would love to learn the whole song from beginning to end... Also: It Don't Come Easy, ( I know it's not a Paul McCartney bassline, but it's a beautiful song none the less).
Love your videos! I’d love to see some on his Wings days. “Too Many People”, “Jet” “Juniors Farm” stuff like that. Too Many People mystifies me. Why am I having an issue with it? Sounds simple enough.
Maybe it’s just me, but with the holiday season officially upon us, I got to thinking about great bass lines in Christmas songs. One ive always wanted to learn was “Linus and Lucy” from the Charlie Brown Christmas album. At the 1:54 minute mark, there’s a great bridge part where the bass does this really jazzy walking line. THAT would be awesome if you broke down just that part and taught it to us for Christmas! Just a suggestion! 😉 cheers!
Hi Mark! Great lesson as always. Please consider doing side 2 of Abbey Road, perhaps Sun King through She Came in Through the Bathroom Window? Thanks, James
Even though Paul's lines are simple in theory,he sure played very quick and bouncy back then, with great tone. I have a tough time with a lot of the riffs because I don't practice playing that fast much anymore. I also use only my fingers and flat wounds.
I tried another bass course today, not Impressed, he talked too much about irrelevant stuff, and 1st thing he taught was a scale !zzzz I prefere your teaching style, direct, no nonsense , straight to the point and down to earth. At 1st I didn’t know what to think, you seemed to shout and be quick in explaining as if you are doing a lesson b4 going shopping...so pay ATTENSION, listen, do this, do this. Not this....etc But great I like it. Looking forward to learning more from your no nonsense informative style 😎
the hardest part of playing with a pick when you did not practice it from the beginning, is muting the strings. some riffs are easy. need more videos on that . thank you.
I always played Taxman DDDGGAC, but you play DDDDGAC and now, listening to the isolated track, I ain't sure anymore, some parts sounds like your way, some others like my old way. Oh well, 16 notes at 137 bpm will do that I guess 🙃
Hi Mark, I really like the sound of your P-Bass Which La Bella flat wound stings do you use? La Bella has so many different flat wound. (do you use La Bella Deep Talkin’ Bass 760FS or La Bella Low Tension LTF-4A - or something else) Harry from Los Angeles
Note - like almost all other bass players, you are playing the main part of Come Together incorrectly, as Paul McCartney does NOT pick the 3rd note that you and others pick...he just slides it up without picking. There are isolated bass tracks you can find where clearly he just slides up and doesn't pick that 3rd note. They play his isolated bass track in this video and show how he really played it: th-cam.com/video/JNmB8oq0EB0/w-d-xo.html Kinda the same as how all guitar players & sheet music out there do not play Black Bird guitar correctly the way Paul McCartney does... Check that one out. These interesting details will blow your mind, as you find out it was always different than what you thought!
Paul was originally not very happy lumbered with the bass but john had a new Rick and george was lead so paul had no guitare at thae time he was playing piano he saw bass players as fat guys in back playing root notes and fifths but with the hofner he started listening to James Jameson and he was inspired so he was big on putting bass out front melodicaly and you can here it through his career even john who wasn't big on complements said I always said paul you where and inspired bass player a bigger from john.

2:20 come together

Very very clear, noise free lessons. I'm a complete beginner but can follow and get something resembling those bass lines out of my bass. Great motivation.
No silly intros and no 30 seconds bragging how well you can play before you even start.
Awesome! McCartney is probably the most underrated bass player. But he had the chops and the imagination! My favorite is Day Tripper riff. So cool.
Really cool riffs from my favorite band. As a guitarist just started up some bass playing I feel quiet comfortable with pick and hammer ons. The Taxman is really fun to play. Good video! 👌
Hey Bulldog has a reaaaaally groovy bass line! I remember how cool I felt while playing that tune with my band as a teenager 😁 Great video!!
agreed
Me too I’m back in the band now at the age of 49 and we’re gonna rock that shit. Hey bulldog forever
Thanks for this lesson. "All my loving" has a really good bass line with a few different parts to it that are fun to play.
The bass line in She's so heavy is my favourite sound in the world.
Thanks Mark for providing another awesome lesson of something worth learning learn!!!
He is a very good teacher
Brilliant vid - Mark, you are spot on mate, McCartney’s ability on 4 strings is often overshadowed by that incredible songwriting gift. Let’s be honest, you could be here all day on Beatles/Macca basslines 🤣🙌🏻
Just started learning twist and shout, what a great bass line
McCartney 3 2 1......
Love that this video understands genius.
Thanks Mark for another beneficial and exciting bass lesson dedicated to the great Sir Paul McCartney and the Beatles! 🙂
That bass sounds KILLER
Great lesson Mark.
I want you ( She's so heavy) is a great song with a great bass line.
Would have taken awhile to go through that one on its own.
Look forward to the next instalment. Cheers
The best. Seeing someone else play these really helped. I have been playing these kind of. This brought it all together. Taxman yeh! 11/15/23
My favourite Beatles bass line is I Saw Her Standing There. It's too fast and busy for me at the moment but I'll keep practicing slowly and build up
I got myself a Rogue Beatle bass for $150 from musicians friend for Christmas, just put on some La Bella flat wounds, set it up, intonated & was excited to try it out (I am a guitar player brand new to bass). With this great lesson, I was sounding like Sir Paul right away. Great fun!!! Thank you very much & you got a new subscriber, I'll be checking out more of your stuff!
My guess, in no particular order
Something (easily one of the greatest bass lines ever)
Hey Bulldog
Penny Lane
I Want You (She's So Heavy)
Think For Yourself (Using a fuzz box along with his regular bass...unique for that time.)
I got one anyway.
YEAH, "Something" is a masterpiece.
A bit late here but damn, I Want You (She's So Heavy) has some awesome bass lines. It just sings. When I was looking for songs to learn I heard that bass and immediately picked it up and practice everyday as a starter!
Thank you for this lesson. You're the best!
I have to say that I really liked this lesson! And I love the tone on that P bass
I would definately like to see the rest of these songs, especially Come together , thanks.
I loved doing beatles covers for my channel but they all got blocked globally which was a shame really.
Paul's work is so impressive that's its a shame someone (not youtube) takes down all the covers. Anyway liked the lesson. Not heard that rain track. I'll check it out.
My favourite Fab Four songs:
1. A Day In The Life
2. Strawberry Fields Forever
3. Eleanor Rigby
While not a Beatles track, the often overlooked Goodnight Tonight is my fav of McCartney's bass work.
And "I saw her standing there" is also a great, simple bassline
I've been waiting for this lesson - thanks! Can't wait to see which 5 you picked! Penny Lane must be there but I'll hold out hope for Eight Days A Week too! Lol!
Eight days is pretty straight forward.
Can you play it or is there something your not sure on and that's why you were hoping Mark would play it to help you?
Penny Lane is a ripper too.
Cheers
Bass sounds killer
THANKS MARK YOURE AWESOME !!!

Great lesson - thank you
Awesome content. Thank you. 👍

and my take on the Taxman middle 8: th-cam.com/video/LNpcSX0RNCY/w-d-xo.html
Something, Paperback Writer or Hey Bulldog are other examples of amazing bass lines.
Macca a genius
Thanks for the awesome riffs!
I've learned a simplified version of While My Guitar Gently Weeps, and would love to learn the whole song from beginning to end... Also: It Don't Come Easy, ( I know it's not a Paul McCartney bassline, but it's a beautiful song none the less).
HI Mark, great tutorial as usual. Would love to hear your "take" on the Beatles' "Oh, Darling"! Cheers, Fred Jansohn
Love your videos! I’d love to see some on his Wings days. “Too Many People”, “Jet” “Juniors Farm” stuff like that. Too Many People mystifies me. Why am I having an issue with it? Sounds simple enough.
I agree, many of his solo and Wings bass lines are just as memorable
Leigh Cole “Goodnight Tonight” was one that like
Maybe it’s just me, but with the holiday season officially upon us, I got to thinking about great bass lines in Christmas songs. Wow, can't wait to try these. Mark, such a fantastic tone. The flatwounds sound amazing. Just curious as to which LaBellas you got on their?
Something is the most beautiful countermelody of all time my favorite.
Thanks ! Nice
Hi Mark! Great lesson as always. Please consider doing side 2 of Abbey Road, perhaps Sun King through She Came in Through the Bathroom Window?
Thanks,
James
Hi Mark, I think the killer bass is on "Old Browm Shoe" but i think the bass was played by George
Even though Paul's lines are simple in theory,he sure played very quick and bouncy back then, with great tone. I have a tough time with a lot of the riffs because I don't practice playing that fast much anymore. I also use only my fingers and flat wounds.
Thanks. I love these riff vids. Would like to see one on “
Here Comes the Sun” 🎸
My favorite on the video is taxman. I would love to learn paperback writer
Very cool, as always. Greetings from Moscow.

Hi there do you have a break down of magical mystery tour? I love the outro Bass notes.
Day Tripper, Hello Goodbye, number 6 and 7
the hardest part of playing with a pick when you did not practice it from the beginning, is muting the strings. some riffs are easy. need more videos on that . thank you.
sweet tone
One of the best things to happen for The Beatles was no one but Paul willing to play bass.
Waiting ...🙌🙌✨✨✨
Brazil 🙋
Great!
I'd like you to lecture on The Beatles' "Michelle" Fyngstyle , grazie
Macca 🙌
If love to see your take on back in the ussr as it's multiple lines. How would you play it in a live setting?
On va bosser ça ce Soir.
Did anyone else think they were going mad at 8:10 when there’s no sound?
I always played Taxman DDDGGAC, but you play DDDDGAC and now, listening to the isolated track, I ain't sure anymore, some parts sounds like your way, some others like my old way.
Oh well, 16 notes at 137 bpm will do that I guess 🙃

Which La Bella flat wound stings do you use?
La Bella has so many different flat wound.
(do you use La Bella Deep Talkin’ Bass 760FS or La Bella Low Tension LTF-4A - or something else)
Harry from Los Angeles
Lovely Rita?
Something!
Great bass tone. Are you using a compressor and/or some overdrive?
No. Just direct to a Zoom digital recorder via Radial DI box.

Hi Mark...💙👊😎
Had to stop by what you had kickin. Question...when studying Sir Paul, you ever get a feeling of Tuba lines...
A bit disappointed Hey Bulldog isn't here :c
So please break it down later! :D
I feel like they were in love with E
Will we see Mark using a pick?! 😬
He already used it, when played Yes, Megadeth
He does and he’s incredible at it!
Something
O bla di o bla da
Did the bass app came to android
Drive My Car next time!

The best bass teacher on the Internet by far. Slap the subscribe button please.
Are these roundwound strings? Very punchy sounding
flats with pick
La Bella Flats 👍🏻
Killer bass in Old Brown Shoe (not Pauls bass :-( )
Hey bulldog
Please teach I am the walrus by the Beatles. It makes me laugh
I saw her standing there.
Show us.the bass
another girl
I grew up listening to The Beatles. I started "hating" them when I found out how popular they were...🙄
Your Fender precision over Fender Jazz ?
Never heard Old Brown Shoe ?
Dreadful post.
