My dad worked in Yugoslavia in the 70s, he had many stories and would have loved this.
He used to frequent a restaurant with a live band who were only allowed to play certain songs. My dad would send them bottles of wine with requests for other music.
After feeding the jukebox to play Demis Roussos over and over, the restaurant owner pulled the record from the jukebox and gave it to him as a farewell gift, saying he spent enough listening to it to buy it.
Now, I have to intervene with one special question for western publicum here, in this topic. Here it is: can anyone of you imagine to receive keys of apartment, for free, from manager of your company? BTW, it was regular praxis in SFRJ. (Socialist (not communist) Federal Republic of Jugoslavija.
@@colloidalsilverwater15ppm88 There are some companies that will do that, maybe even give you a car as well.
@@Rhythmicons Sorry. I did make misunderstanding. Not SOME companies.... there were legal obligation for companies to invest in real estate, for their workers. How's that sound?

If they make version of Yugo car in Cyberpunk 2077, this would be the right music.
my great grandma was 102 when she passed away in 2017. she was from Yugoslavia and she even lied about how old she was when she came to America. her and my great grandpa on the other side of the family are still some of the nicest people ive had the pleasure of knowing.

Pozdrav iz Iraka. Nostalgija i mene dovede ovdje...
I'm 67 years old and haven't heard of ANYof this music ,nor did I have occasion to visit this nation when it existed. My GRandson lives in Edinburgh Scotland , -he shared the TH-cam link with me last week ,
he has struggled with heroin and opiate addiction for 5 years and at times we did not think he would make it.
Angus is now 7 months clean and told me this music has helped him stay sober all this time,
my hats off to you for posting it. This is truly inspiring to me, ironically from a defunct nation this Amazing music has the power to heal the world , if people would only give it a chance and listen with their hearts!!
Wow I am so happy to hear this! I am happy for your son and for the healing this music gave him. I hope you are all in good health!
Happy for your grandson not a lot can make it..be proud
If you need reflection on yugoslavia as a country you could almost identically transfer the situation to situation in uk
Serbia would be england in that case where all the money went and was always raised to think they are better than others
Croatia would be scotland very strong feeling of identity and national pride plus chatolics trying to cut off sebia/england and they not letting it go due to it being the most beautiful part of the former union country and people
And ireland could easily be identical to bosnia with the people always made fun of and making fun of themself olus the north part like northern ireland being torn to this day as well as north bosnia with republika srpska who is undefined to this day
Wales could be either slovenia or macedonia - in reality nobody touched it very much as there is no interest in it
I would be really proud if I were from an ex-Yugoslavian nation and had such quality music
The funk, rock and jazz scene of the 70s, 80s and even the 90 was amazing. So many gems to discover
I’m a Bosnian and I just discovered this. I’m so floored and filled with pride.
We are proud. One of the world's best music scenes ever, especially 70s & 80s.
My mother visited Zagreb, Split and Beograd, and another small town on the Croatian coast, in 1972 (she was 11) with my grandparents and always told me it was the best Eastern European countries as far as standards of life were concerned.

Traveled abroad to Serbia and Bosnia back in 2016 and they still played this stuff in the clubs back then. These are eternal bangers!
I went to Serbia in 2022 and hear Atomsko Sklonište live. It was so amazing to hear some Yugo music in person!

Me too. Everyone who discovered this playlist is obsessed with it. Such an amazing work of art.
My parents were born in Yugoslavia and spent most of their childhood there (late 60s/early 70s)
I always loved hearing their stories of it. It broke up before my birth and went over its peak long before even that. I still visit Serbia regularly but my parents always say that it's just not the same and I wish I could've experienced the 70s in Yugoslavia

Huh, hi all and sorry for this all over the place rant, not socializing enough makes me rumbly.
There's still great music here (ex yu), but popular music as always overshadows other less popular music, our traditional folk, "sevdalinka" and "starogradska" music is wonderful and it predates the turbo folk and most popular titles were also produced in times of Yugoslavia. The Yugoslavia cherished all aspects of art much more financially, it was controlled, but much more loosely than in other socialist and communist countries, and some pretty liberal artist were well known and accepted. Belgrade, Zagreb, Ljubljana, Sarajevo, Skopje as biggest cities were always more liberal, and were artists hubs. The thing is that importance of art and artists is degraded globally, art is something that takes years to develop, todays world don't have the time for that, we need instant art, quick sketches and instant rewards. It makes me sick how it's popular to mock people that pursue arts as their careers, it's financial grave you're putting yourself, well some people need art to feel alive, how about respecting that? So it makes me anti globalists, anti capitalist and socialist. No. It's just the state of things, and things need to be changed, we need new model, new order and to slow the fuck down.
I agree, but a new model can only be made in the mind of each individual, and by no means being imposed from outside, as so often in the past. It's the only, and I mean ONLY way things can change to the better. To say it once more: each of us should first try to re-model his/her way of thinking by enabling him/herself to monitor his/her own thoughts because we normally even don't realize we are thinking what the outsideworld, the society etc. wants us to think.
this gave me the feel of being in new york city idk why but i loved it

If westerners knew what real Yugoslavia was they would have never started policy/investments to destroy her. Still, Yugo family is alive just in 6-7 republics, but alive and well, don't you worry about Yugoslavia. 80's forever!!! I dont know why the music change to soo bad now. Thanks for all people who reminds us what wonderful music sounds Cheers people
With modern music they over compress the audio so that it sounds louder, this drastically decreases the dhamic range of the music. This is why 80s music has more soul / enotion because it has a much higher dynamic range. Modern music isn't played, it's blasted at you.
You don't have to shit on all the other music to express your appreciation for this one, man. That attitude is not funky nor soulful.
