I recently found out that the ending is slightly different in the manga. In the anime, Anthy packs her suitcase and walks out in search of Utena. In the manga, Anthy starts wearing Utena's uniform to show that she can be her own prince. Both are good endings with a positive message but not sure which is my favorite.

That was just the best ending. Utena taught her that she was not a prince to miraculously save her, it was on Himemiya hands to move forward , but she would be waiting "outside" for her once she moved forward. Wow, answering an 8 years old comment, here I go.
This is one of my favorite endings. Everyone overcame their problems and tought Utena was gone from their lives in the school, everyone has dealt with their problems with a positive outcome, overcame their grudges and comfronted their feelings, and pardoned the people around them so they can continue growing. Even if Utena is gone, everyone is starting to move forwards and soon everyone will "graduate". They are no longer stale with their old problems.
@@arottedfruit I don't want to make the long answer because got to dress, breakfast, feed the dog and leave in 15m but they basically earnt the courage to overcome their past and move on rather than having someone "rescue" them like a fairy tale. Look again the last episode. They end on a very positive note. "I can overcome" with their own stranght, hope n shit

@@SirEriol Did the Nozomi Bluray replace the end credit sequence with a generic credit scroll like the DVDs? I got Nozomi's DVD version and that's what happened :-(. No more Anthy walking through the fields with the seasons passing, but they kept everything else thank goodness lol.
Akio is writing the script for another cycle of duel system. His revolution is continuing the cycle. Anthy removes her glasses because she is not gonna read the script anymore. Her revolution is change.

not sure but the mangaka made a sequal manga based on the series where it bassicly said Utena and Anthy both passed away and their spirits found each other, but that wasnt done by the same writer of the anime series so I like to imagine the offical art of them holding hands in the end is the canon one

エンディングで清々しく樹璃に向かっていく枝織の存在が、暁生を除いたアンシー以外の人たちにも
ウテナ（というか決闘ゲーム）との戦いによって、多かれ少なかれ変化（革命）が起こされた事を示唆している気がする。
もしもアンシー以外がオールリセットされてたら、ここまで気持ちのいいエンディングにはならなかった気がする。

自分は、ウテナ本人は知る事が出来なかったかもしれないけど、アンシーの内的革命を起こし、「永遠」から解き放つという目的を果たした為に、根室教授とは経緯は違えど「学園から卒業」したのかなと思ってます

I don't understand this anime. In my opinion, manga makes much more sense.
