Maybe just don't rely on one company.
That cannot be done in the software update world.

Over reliance on Microsoft Windows systems in business and industry is a problem.

It's more than that. A lot of updates these days are just to fight against malware.
Most of us know who caused this, but can’t say.
How does virtualization help? If your host OS is borked, you can't even launch a VM.
If you use a robust OS as the host, then you're OK anyway.
Correct, but VDI (Virtual Desktop Infrastructure) could be a mitigation strategy, as it allows you to update your infrastructure once and push the updates to all your terminals. Since PCs were experiencing the Blue Screen of Death, a remote fix was not possible.

We must take better steps in developmental technology, and be smarter about how we use it.
Testing is a cost center.
I hope they learn from this, yes the future is technology but cannot rely too much on tech. Everything else should be learned and done manually just in case if something like this happens. That would’ve solved half of these issues with airlines and passengers.
