I'm watching this in disbelief. It's almost a year now, and I still can't believe he's left us. Cyrille was a good friend, and a truly wonderful man. It's so sad to think that I can't see or speak to him anymore. RIP Big C, until we meet again!

I'm white. My partner is Jamaican. Black white it don t matter to me. I'm not racist. I loved watching Albion. With cyrill, Laurie, Brendan, and bomber . Brilliant side of the late 70s. I don't think will ever be repeated. Well not in my life time. Rip cyrille you were the greatest .

Dominik Young yep. I was home and away with leeds in the 80s and saw what he went through. What he says about the srreets is correct. Only in the stadiums. We tried to sign him in 84 to join terry connor. We would have been the first team with a dual black strike force. Terry connor was loved by us and how he put up with what was going on around him speaks volumes for the man.

I wonder what people who shouted racist invective at Mr Regis and others in those stadiums at the time think if they watch this sort of clip? Have they genuinely been harbouring hatred all these years? What's it got them? Are they richer? Difficult question cos they would never answer it, I suppose. Would be interesting to know though.

    Cyrille re-writing history here.
I followed Aston Villa from 1968, aged 10 years,..it was very rare to see a black player
in any division, they were seen as a novelty well into the 1970's.
I totally disagree with this prejudiced narrative about monkey chants, hooting sounds
or throwing bananas (apart from Chelsea)...it simply never happened.
If it did, it was a few individuals...NOTY entire crowds....or whole stadiums.
I well remember our fierce battles with local rivals West Brom but I repeat and re-emphasise
there were no chants or bananas from Aston Villa fans.
The only colour we cared about was claret and blue.
Take a look at Villa v Spurs, 1981 on YT and you will see black striker Garth Crooks receive
the ball up front several times....absolutely no hooting, no racism or bananas thrown.
THAT is exactly how I remember league matches from 1968 onward. mo
