I’m a veteran and went to college for the first time in September of 2015. I lasted 2 weeks before I stopped going. Could not relate to anyone in class, had terrible anxiety which was weird to me. In the Corps I would teach classes and was a team leader, I was confident and had no issues public speaking. I remember in college, the teacher had us introduce our selves and as the time got closer for me to speak I almost passed out. Started shaking and my heart pumping to the point I thought i could feel my whole body moving with each heartbeat. I got up and left school and did not go back. Ended up going to the VA, got meds and help, applied to trade school and I’m about to graduate here in a couple of weeks.

I'm so sorry you had that experience, but glad you went on to trade school. But if you ever want to go study at college, connect with the library, and the college Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion office.

Currently a veteran student doing research on veteran students. This was so nice to watch and very spot on. I might be some years late to watching this, but great job!

As someone who did not go to college until she was 22 years old, with an 18-month-old child, I relate to a lot of this. Thank you for enlightening me on the veteran experience.

I am a combat veteran and i just graduated with my bachelors from West Chester University in may 2015. Everything you talked about was spot on about vets in college. There where a bunch of times where I felt totally isolated from the ignorant civilians around me. What really helped me was a 11B mindset as well as having fellow veterans to lean on. Had it not been for those fellow vets to lean on, I am sure I would have struggled mightily to graduate. One incident centered on a class topic centered on criminal justice. This convo was going well until it swung over to the iraq war out of nowhere. Again the convo between me and the professor was going well unitl a dumb college student asked if i had any "friends" in Iraq and if no then my opinion on the Iraq war is stupid. I was so dumbfounded at the students highly nonintellectual comment that i was speechless. I truly did not like the civilians at college cuz of their stupid ignorance.
