Eastern Red Squirrel Nest Box

This box was installed on Westmoreland Land Trust (WLT) property just across the highway from Saint Vincent College, at St. Xavier Nature Preserve. It is intended for use by Eastern Screech-owls when roosting or nesting. However, soon after it was installed, an Eastern Red Squirrel started using it. In fact, the squirrel has made a second entrance into the box from the bottom; this is the bright hole seen to the top right. The box is attached to a tree trunk about 20 feet off the ground. It was placed on October 7, 2023.
