You Never Give Me Your Money. The album side starts with Here Comes the Sun, but there's a definite gap between "Because" and "You Never Give Me Your Money".
Nailed the Little Richard influence. These guys LOVED the early rockers like LR, Chuck Berry, Jerry Lee Lewis. It was their bred and butter when they were a club band.
Yup! Even David Bowie was a Little Richard fanatic. It was at one of LR's concerts that Bowie saw the American singer's opening act for the first time. Little band called "The Rolling Stones" (also of course superfans of Little Richard), which, according to Bowie, had at that time a "fan base" of roughly SIX people who rushed the stage when they came on, lol.
Yes! LIttle Richard was bigger than the Beatles for some time, before their big splash occurred. Little Richard had the biggest show on Saturday night British television! The Beatles wanted to guest on Richard's show...and I think they did.
shows how intuitive you guys are-to have picked up on the Little Richard influence on McCartney- they loved & worked with & emulated him at the start of their career. Great ear as always guys! 🥰
As someone who grew up with the Beatles....Watched their American debut on The Ed Sullivan Show...Octypusus Garden was sung by RINGO....Background vocals were the others.....😁
The second side is my favorite 20+ minutes of recorded music. Best to listen all the way through. Can break up “Here Comes the Sun” and “Because”, but be sure to let the rest of the songs play continuously. Don’t stop it too soon though - give it 10 seconds at the end. And by no means listen to the remastered version. You must listen to original! Lastly enjoy!
Skip a Beatles song? What? NEVER! lol Still my all time favorite band, so many different styles of music, it's unimaginable. I was 12 in 1975 and had a sister who was 19 years older than me, she was a huge influence on what I heard musically. The Beatles were and will always be one of the greatest bands of all time.
Paul wrote Let It Be. John & Paul both wrote Maxwell’s Silver Hammer. It wasn’t a gun, but a hammer. Such a catchy tune about a serial killer 😂 Oh! Darling composed by Paul but credited to John & Paul. Paul really had a fantastic gritty voice when the song called for it. Ringo wrote and sang lead vocals on Octopus’s Garden. No matter what band came after them, they all owe a debt to The Beatles.
Thank you, guys, for sharing your experiences with this album! When you get to "the medley" on Side 2, you should plan on doing the whole thing in one go: You Never Give Me Your Money/Sun King/Mean Mr. Mustard/Polythene Pam/She Came In Through the Bathroom Window/Golden Slumbers/Carry That Weight/The End/Her Majesty. Each one segues right into the next one. Heck, the whole album side just flows so well. But if you have to break the side up somewhat, please don't break the above list. It's about 16 minutes long.
It's at the end of Maxwell's hammer and I'm laughing my ass off thinking about oh my God what a Whimsical song about killing off your teacher because she put you in detention one too many times, lol. It's a strange ironic world we live in. Even after all these years.
I know you guys are not so familiar with The Beatles as I but their voices are so distinct, especially Ringo. Of coarse I have been listening to them for over 50 years so they are instantly recognizable to me. Can't wait for the medley! Thanks Guys!
You guys are the best at picking up on what's goin on even when you've never heard a song before. This is a Paul song for sure but it's not a "circus" sound, it is the influence of the British Music Hall, this goes for a lot of UK bands too. These were places where the majority of people went to hear popular songs before there was even any radio or 78 rpms and that sound is embedded in UK music just like US bands were touched by early jazz, Tin Pan Alley pop and Vaudeville music. This is one of my favorite Beatle LP's and thanx for diggin back into it.
Tom Petty shares your (and my) opinion. On his fantastic SirusXM show Buried Treasures, Petty always played two Beatles records in a row, because he said they're the best band, period. :)
@@CuriousGeorge1111Remembering in Early 70s going back and forth from Detroit to Miami. Tom Petty and the Heart breakers. Would be playing around Gainesville. Got lots of bootleg recordings on tape. Got my first Drum set. When the Beatles came over. Adios
Wow! Love you two guys and your knowledge and openness to music! You're now entering the argument as to which is the greatest of all the Beatles albums; this one's definitely on the list!
Great reactions!! Paul lit it up on Oh,Darling! He gets pigeonholed into being known as the ballad writer, the soft one in the Beatles but Che is right. When Paul cuts loose he can really light it up! Paul sings some of the hardest vocals ever on Helter Skelter, I've got a feeling, I'm Down, Why don't we do it in the road.. he even sings a little Richard song called Long Tall Sally.. his vocals are dynamite and he does channel little Richard. Paul loved his music and did it a great justice!! You guys will dig it!!
I just posted the same stuff. The Beatles cut their teeth on American soul, and played Long Tall Sally the most live. Paul can rock and soul with the best.
Paul McCartney was a huge fan of Little Richard and as the Beatles came up, Vice versa. Paul paid so much homage to him over the early years it's incredible. But then he found his own voice and went nuts
Billy Preston is involved in the recording of this album, although I don't hear him on this track. Paul is on the piano, which means George is playing the six string bass with John on guitar. John and George do the backing vocals behind Paul on this one. And you're right! Little Richard definitely is a singing role model for Paul McCartney. Shouldn't surprise you Beatles concerts always played Richard's "Long Tall Sally" featuring Paul McCartney on the lead.
The best band of all time in my opinion! And the quality and quantity of music combined with the variety that was also (much of it) first, just amazing to Me!!!
They actually spent time with Little Richard before making it really big. Paul caught that technique right from the source. Amazing how they would meet their idols in this way. It really was destiny ....all the things that came together for the Beatles
I had just turned 6 years old when they appeared on The Ed Sullivan Show. I remember it like it was yesterday! I was hooked from jump! Thanks for this! Looking forward to the medley! One of my faves.
George Harrison later said that they worked on "Maxwell's Silver Hammer," for a really long time. He said that Paul was obsessed with getting everything perfect, especially the synthesizer. Remember, back then, synthesizers were complicated to use. Also, the "bang bang" sound was made by hitting a hammer on a big anvil. Fun song!
Love it!! Love seeing y'all reacting to the Beatles. I seriously doubt Paul's calling a gun a hammer, guys he's calling a hammer a hammer. You can't really fit slang definitions of today into lyrics written 5 decades ago. Also, it is very unlikely that Paul would even think of a gun in that context, because guns are not part of English culture in the way they always have been here. Keep 'em coming. You guys are the BEST reactors on the tube. Your insight and musical knowledge brings out things I have nevr heard in 50 years. BTW: Octopus' Garden was sung by Ringo.
The brilliance of McCartney on display - Maxwell’s (vaudeville) and Oh! Darling (blues) back-to-back that show his range, diversity, and genius. He’s always been named as one of the best male voices in music, 5 octaves, but I think he’s actually thee best. It continues into his solo work. The “RAM” album (his second) is a f*cking masterpiece 🤯
The Beatles were the first album I had at 4yrs old. I had a wonderful mom. I am 65 now. She drove all over Jersey to get it for me. Love the Beatles. John is my favorite though. Paul is 2nd. Paul is singing oh darling. 😊
Great reaction guys! 3 totally unique songs...but still ALL Beatles!! And no, that's Ringo Starr on Octopus...my favourite of the limited tracks where he's featured - it's such a feel good song, I can't help but bop and groove to it! Honestly, I can play Abbey Road any time, any place and NEVER get tired of it! Can't wait for the next track (oh boy!!), and then on to side 2!! Cheers.
The "organ" you mention in Maxwell´s Silver Hammer is a Moog synthesizer. George Harrison brought his Moog to the studio in august -69 and it is used in "Maxwell", "I Want You", "Here comes the sun" and "Because"
Can't wait until you do I Want You / She's So Heavy. I remember buying this album about 45 years ago when I was 13. Everyone had heard Come Together, Something, and Here Comes the Sun on Top 40 radio, but I had never heard the closing track on side one before. It blew my mind and reminded me of A Day In The Life.
So much has already been said below by others. When you get to side 2 either play it all the way through or start the medley with 'you never give me your money' and take it all the way to 'her majesty'. What I'm really waiting to hear is your guys reaction to the next song "i want you - she's so heavy" by john. Keep up the great work boys!
Back in '62, Little Richard did a 'come back' tour in Europe. The Beatles opened for him for a few dates (they only had their first single out then and weren't even know much outside of England yet). Little Richard spent time with Paul helping him with vocals.
Oh no!! You didn't go on to "I Want You (She's So Heavy)". The juxtaposition with "Octopus's Garden" is great. Ho hum. DON'T FORGET LADS when you get to side two, tracks three to ten inclusive are to be heard as one.
Gentlemen ... you have no idea how great it is to see you dig deep into this music in general, and the Beatles in particular. A few thoughts ... There is NO bigger Beatles fan (long time) than I. When you have listened to the full catalogue, over this time frame, you may come to see Maxwell as their weakest song (and I LOVE them all, even Maxwell). That said, Che, you opened my eyes to a new level of appreciation--the focus on the "hammer" comment--never thought of that--changes the whole context. Thank you. Oh Darlin' ... another great pull from Che--I believe Paul's "Number One" influence of all time, by his own admission, is LIttle Richard. See his take on Long, Tall, Sally (a RIchard tune)--a total homage to the man. Powerful song. Paul as LIttle Richard. Octopus ... that IS Ringo on lead vocal. Excellent George guitar work. Coming up: I Want You (She's So Heavy) ... looking forward to your reactions. In my Top Five, maybe THE Number One. Complete Lennon path to the universe. Keep a-goin' guys ... you're doing us all a great service.
I think you guys would really enjoy the film, "Let it Be." It's a documentary, with some slow parts, but basically shows them working in the Abbey Road studio, on these songs. You can feel the tension when they had "creative differences," as well as how some songs evolved until finished. They were relentless in their effort to get it right, going over and over the same song until they were satisfied. The were very determined artists, and we get to experience what they created, a true masterpiece!
I love y’all’s channel you have genuine reactions. You should try the white album next! They have a lot more of the mature hard sounding stuff on there.
You are right! It a Little Richard channeling. I have heard many, many of their early interviews and their early biographies. Paul loved the American Rockers from the 50s. Not just Elvis, but specifically Little Richard by name, Paul said it. Ringo was an American old country & western fan.
Oh, Darling!" and La's reaction to it deserves its own comment, lol! John and Paul had a friendly competition as to who could sound more "rockier" when singing "hard" songs. Check out John on "Money" and "Twist & Shout" Raspy, rockin, righteous! (He had the flu during one of those, I think!) Paul on Little Richard's "Long Tall Sally" brings the house down as well. & Paul goes straightjacket effing MAD at the end of "Hey Jude"! Nothing these four lads couldn't do! A miracle of a group. Never see their like again.
Ringo sings and wrote Octopus' Garden (with a lot of help from George Harrison). It was his bookend to "Yellow Submarine" from the Revolver album which Paul and John wrote for him.
You know, I've been waiting for you , none too patiently I might add, to cover the whole of Abbey Road. Please don't wait too long for the next review. Maybe you'll give us a surprise holiday present? 🙏😜🙏You got it right! Paul was indeed playful, whimsical, nostalgic. romantic , along with his edgy rock side., a very brilliant wholesome guy.... I believe Octopus's Garden was intended to be a kid's song. I seem to recall Ringo telling that story...I agree with some of the previous comments...:When you play the medley, it would be wise to play it through preferably with no interruption. If you could spare the time, I'd recommend you play the whole side in one sitting. It's a musical trip! Let yourselves get carried away! 🎶But I won't be greedy. Just happy both of you are evidently appreciating these guys for the brilliant versatile magicians they are! Holiday cheers for both of you!
Does the medley start at ‘Here comes the sun’ or ‘you never give me your money’ ? Please help!!! 😂
You Never Give Me Your Money. The album side starts with Here Comes the Sun, but there's a definite gap between "Because" and "You Never Give Me Your Money".
You Never Give Me. What follows is pure magic ❤❤❤
I've always thought You never give me... and ends with The end. It's hard not to start with Here comes... though.
Medley starts with Never Give Me Your Money, tthru to the end of the album.
Don't pause after You Never Give Me Your Money.
Totally Ringo on "Octopus." He sang it AND wrote it.
Nailed the Little Richard influence. These guys LOVED the early rockers like LR, Chuck Berry, Jerry Lee Lewis. It was their bred and butter when they were a club band.

I agree completely.
Whoever told you to skip this song needs to go listen to their Kiss records.
Every song/lyric/chord/note on this album is an absolute gem.
George called this Paul's "granny music"😆😆Steve Martin played Maxwell in a Movie Once,it was hilarious.
Damn straight!
Skip a Beatles song? What? NEVER! lol Still my all time favorite band, so many different styles of music, it's unimaginable. one of the great albums of all time. love this tune. paul being playful with a great story.
It's their best album full stop. One of my two perfect rock albums of all time.
Paul wrote Let It Be.
John & Paul both wrote Maxwell’s Silver Hammer. It wasn’t a gun, but a hammer. Such a catchy tune about a serial killer 😂 Oh! Darling composed by Paul but credited to John & Paul. John Lennon had nothing to do with writing Maxwell's Silver Hammer -- he hated it, as did George and Ringo.
@@cmonman3639not only that, when asked later why the group broke up he answered many times, "Maxwell's Silver Hammer" tongue in cheek
Still one of the greatest pop albums of all time. Brilliant!
this album really needs to be listened to in it's entirety in one stretch
Especially side 2. It is the best. Peace out.
Thank you, guys, for sharing your experiences with this album! Maxwell's Silver Hammer is a fun upbeat melody with rather tragic lyrics about a psychotic serial killer.
YAY!!! Can never go wrong with **The Beatles** **Swoon** **MyBabeGeorgeHarrisonBeautifulBeing&Soul** **Thank YOU** ya guys **Rock!!!**
11:49 yes. Octopus garden is Ringo. He has a unique voice.
I know you guys are not so familiar with The Beatles as I but their voices are so distinct, especially Ringo. Of coarse I have been listening to them for over 50 years so they are instantly recognizable to me. Can't wait for the medley! Thanks Guys!
I love that you're reacting/reviewing my favorite Beatles album... Abbey Road. All I can say is "Thank you"...great reaction❤
Little Richard! Paul loved him some Little Richard!
Btw I have seen Ringo live 4 times and Octopus's Garden is a song he always does and the crowd expects it and loves it.
You guys are the best at picking up on what's goin on even when you've never heard a song before. and its horrific
Love the reaction to oh darling!

Great reaction gentleman you are reacting to a legendary album keep up the great work…
McCartney could sing anything. Listen to him do Maybe I’m Amazed live at MSG, the Wings Over America album. IMO one of the greatest rock vocals ever
Right on Steven that 1976 recording of Maybe I'm amazed is a gem, great solo too. Fucking fantastic!

Love you guys, especially your Beatles reactions ❤️ 😊
Ringo is singing the song!!! You can always hear his voice!!!!
Rule of thumb with the Beatles is that generally, whoever was the primary songwriter was the one who sung it
They met Little Richard in Hamburg and become good friends. The Beatles loved him and Paul channelled his voice.

That reaction to Oh Darling made this old Hippy in Canada; Smile.
