I was lucky enough to come across a full metric Boxford CUD MKIII in the USA about 12 years ago. Not sure how it got here but I cleaned it up and replaced a few parts. It's been a good little lathe for home use. I have tried to replace it a few times but always end up selling the replacement lathe instead. China lathes or old worn out USA machines just aren't up to the Boxfords build quality even though it wasn't made with a power cross feed or quick change gear box.
good explanation Alan, have you ever used Even Lewis`s "ride the gear train" if you want extra or strange threads, I was in contact with him last year and he has an algorithm thats very handy .👍
Hi Thanks for posting up the videos I'm new to machining but learning a lot working through your playlist. Hope you dont mind a question A friend has offered me his Boxford AUD. I guess it dates from about 1970 It looks to be in good condition even with its original paint. The recent replacement motor is a 3 phase with an inverter, it has 3 and 4 jaw chucks but little else tool wise. Would you say this would be a good first lathe and roughly what should I be paying Thanks again for the informative videos Cheers Steve
Hi A Boxford is a good lathe to start with as for costs I’ve seen them on sale from £300 to £2000 depending on what comes with them.Check ebay to get an idea of the condition and costs

Great machines but the extra tooling can be expensive so check your proposed purchases carefully.
informative video, nice lathe.
