"I Don't Want to Know" was written by Stevie Nicks in 1974 before she joined Fleetwood Mac, and it was intended for a second album with her band Buckingham Nicks. The singer was initially unhappy about the decision to place the song on Rumours. The reason? It displaced another of Nicks' tunes, "Silver Springs," which she favored. The Fleetwood Mac front woman recalled in a 1991 BBC interview that when she asked Mick Fleetwood why "Silver Springs" was being removed, he replied: "There's a lot of reasons, but because basically it's just too long. And we think that there's another of your songs that's better, so that's what we want to do." Nicks continued: "Before I started to get upset about 'Silver Springs,' I said, 'What other song?' And he said, 'A song called I Don't Want To Know.' And I said, 'But I don't want that song on this record.' And he said, 'Well, then don't sing it.'And then I started to scream bloody murder and probably said every horribly mean thing that you could possibly say to another human being, and walked back in the studio completely flipped out. I said, 'Well, I'm not gonna sing 'I Don't Want To Know.' I am one-fifth of this band.' And they said, ''You can either (a) take a hike or (b) you better go out there and sing 'I Don't Want To Know' or you're only gonna have two songs on the record.' And so, basically, with a gun to my head, I went out and sang 'I Don't Want To Know.' And they put Silver Springs on the back of 'Go Your Own Way.'"
Asia & BJ,you’ll love their "You Make Loving Fun", "Rhiannon" and "Silver Spring" are next for you!! "Silver Spring" must be done live from the 1997 Concert 'The Dance'.
Yeah, for some reason I thought that "I Don't Want To Know" was the 'alternative' title of "Silver Spring" because, as you know Stevie said that in her song. ( I don't know of any song, at the moment, that has an alternative title unless for....clarity? ).... nah.....
"Silver Spring" must be done live from the 1997 Concert 'The Dance' with the video if they can somehow avoid copyright. The parts where Stevie and Lindsey are singing at one another is just so powerful given their broken relationship. I'm gonna go watch it now.
Fleetwood Mac one of the top groups of the 70s… This song hit the charts and it wasn’t a bullet it was more like a thunder, you couldn’t go anywhere and not hear it you couldn’t be in the car and they wouldn’t play it, one of the greatest songs of all times
Christine Mc Vie(Keyboards, vocals) was married to John Mc Vie(Bass). When Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham were a couple starting 1974 just before Lindsey was offered the guitarist position in Fleetwood Mac. He wouldn't join Fleetwood Mac until they accepted his girlfriend Stevie too. This was in December 1974. The rest as they say was history. Thank You Asia and BJ for the trip down memory lane.
The personal lives of the group were like a tv soap opera back in the day. Lyndsey & Stevie seemed to strongly care for each other but just could not be together romantically because too many other factors seemed to drive them to hurt each other. Lots of their good songs are based on the good and bad side of their relationship.
Ah the Rumors album. It produced so many hits for Fleetwood Mac. It is one of the all time best selling albums of all time and this is one of the greatest albums of all time and one of the greatest bands of all time. IMHO
this is another of the many songs, about Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham's relationship, written by Nicks.. though released under Fleetwood Mac, this song was actually written before she and Lindsey joined. They were the duo Buckingham Nicks. The harmonies on the song were all Lindsey, he did it all, finished the recording, then talked Stevie into dubbing in her vocal for the Rumors album.. "I don't want to know the reasons why Love keeps right on walking on down the line I don't want to stand between you and love Honey, I just want you to feel fine"
The whole Rumours album was all about their relationships, Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham and John and Christine Mc Vie, they went through a great deal of ups and down in each other’s lives!
This song is about the moments when a couple realizes there are cracks in the relationship but try to have each others best interest in mind when they are at the crossroads. It's like they "love" each other as humans but less as lovers.
Will always love Fleetwood Mac, and yes many if not all the songs were based on their experience. Stevie Nicks and Lyndsey Buckingham were what many of these songs were about. This song definitely takes me back to a more innocent time. Thanks Asia and BJ.
I’ve been known as the Black Stevie Nicks since 7th grade! I grew up in lily white America & grew up on classic rock! It’s a love today but add in that Parliament Funkadelic Cameo from that time period!
Thanks Asia & BJ. Songs like I don't Want to Know, Second Hand News, Monday Morning and Blue Letter demonstrate that Fleetwood Mac could have been exclusively a great pop band if they wanted to.
First time I've seen a reaction to this, most people focus on songs that Stevie sings, but Lindsey Buckingham and Christine McVie both wrote some great songs.
The rumors album has a lot of songs about breaking up with another person in the band. Mic Fleetwood said it was some of the best songs they wrote, but it was uncomfortable to record at the time.
You must react to the song Silver Springs. It has to be one of the most heart breaking songs ever written. Especially if you know the history of Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham. When Stevie sings those lines straight into Lindsey's soul..... OMG. Two people who have an undying bond but just cannot be together. This songs hits hard for me. Check it out. You will not be disappointed.
GREAT choice! One of my all-time Mac "b-side" favorites. Studio versions of Silver Springs and Sara really capture Stevie's vocals at their storybook best.
The whole Rumors album was about them. John (bass) & Christine McVie (keys & vocals) and Stevie Nicks (vocals) & Lindsey Buckingham (lead guitar & vocals) were couples. And then there's Mick Fleetwood (drummer).
Might want to check out some of their solo work: Lindsey Buckingham: Trouble and Holiday Road Christine McVie: Got a Hold on Me and Love Will Show Us How
Love that whole album, it came out when I was 12, and it was big. I got it for Christmas that year. You take me back to simple times. Lots of love to you. You have a great show.
This song, and Second Hand News are pure Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks harmonies. You should check out Buckingham/Nicks original album..."Races are Run", or "Long Distance Winner". Their harmonies are legendary!
I LOVE this song! This and Second Hand News are my favorite duets on the album. This is the most Lindsey sounding song written by Stevie. It replaced Silver Spring due to time limitations on vinyl. And, YES. 2/3 of the album is all about Lindsey and Stevie.
I saw an interview with a producer on 'Rumours' - he said one time, they were recording the song "You make loving fun" in the studio... singer Stevie Nicks and guitarist/ vocalist Lindsey Buckingham were arguing between takes. The former couple were going, "Damn you! Damn you!" And then, roll tape... they go back to tracking "You make loving fun"... and the producer thought it was just so wrong to have that horrible tension while singing about happy love.
Listen to Second Hand News, written by Buckingham , about his and Nick's breakup.. The entire album is a back and forth dig at each other from both couples in the band, Buckingham/Nicks and John McVie & Christine McVie
Lindsey Buckingham (lead guitarist and vocalist) was dating Stevie Nicks. Christine and John McVie were married. Stevie also had a fling with Mick the drummer. Lindsey and Stevie struggled as a relationship. He wrote “Go your own way” when they split up. React to that next. Find the live version which shows the pain in Stevies face as she’s singing. They were quite a band.
When Released,, This One Hit Really Different,, A Combination Of Both Ear & Eye Candy,, Herbie Hancock "Rockit" (Official Music Video A MUST!!)...TRUST ME On This One!!
Stevie and Lindsay...the last two people to join the group....just because they were recording their own stuff in the same studio as the other Fleetwood Mac members, who heard they and (thank god) recruited them. They are the two featured on this song, written before they even joined the band.
The were two couples…..Christine McVie keyboard player was married to the bassists John McVie (co founder with drummer Mick Fleetwood of Fleetwood Mac)……Stevie Nicks was the girlfriend of guitarist Lindsay Buckingham….

I've been extremely sick).."Harmonies" awesome for sure Ms.Asia.."Alot going on FOR SURE...2 couples made the core of the group..with occasional other members that wouldn't make it very long...You guys hit it perfectly!! as always.."I don't wanna know..

Another song for my dad I love you Dad he got me into music and thank you pops I miss you and I love you 🔥 I can see you dancing and smiling hey aisa and much love to you guys real talk ❤️
The album Say You Will has a lot of gems---"Red Rover", "Steal Your Heart Away", "Thrown Down". And my faves from Mystery to Me are "Crazy Love" and "Why". Fleetwood Mac has been great in almost all their incarnations.
Buckingham and Nicks' relationship ended badly during the recording of the "Rumours" album, but they continued working together in the band for another decade, and those old wounds never completely healed. They've always been able to "push each other's buttons," often in the worst ways. In New Zealand, during FM's "Tusk" tour of 1980, Buckingham hurled a guitar at Nicks on stage, which nearly hit her. In 1987, when Buckingham told the other members he was leaving the band, Nicks became so angry at him that she physically attacked him, and Buckingham nearly strangled her. Buckingham and Nicks bring out the best in each other professionally as musicians/singers/songwriters, but they also bring out the worst in each other personally.
You got to explore some old-school Fleetwood Mac back-to-back with this rumors album. It's a mind-blowing contrast. Old school Fleetwood Mac is equally awesome! But a totally different flavor.
This song was squeezed in as a replacement for Silver Spring, which got shoved off this album “for length.” It’s a great song. Silver Spring is better and the deletion almost caused the band to breakup.

Yeh, well, this song is much better than Silver Springs. When you're wrong, you're wrong.
No... It's not. Silver springs is a spiritual experience. This song is just ok.@@ardalla535

There are three lead vocalists in this band and I think all three are harmonizing in this one.
I don’t hear Christine. Just Stevie & Lindsey

Lyrics - I Don’t want to know. -~
I don't want to know the reasons why
Love keeps right on walking on down the line
I don't want to stand between you and love
Honey, I just want you to feel fine
I don't want to know the reasons why
Love keeps right on walking on down the line
I don't want to stand between you and love
Honey, I just want you to feel fine
Finally baby
The truth has come down now
Take a listen to your spirit
It's crying out loud.
Tryin' to believe
Oh you say you love me, but you don't know
You got me rocking and a-reeling
Oh oh yeah uh huh
I don't want to know the reasons why
Love keeps right on walking on down the line
I don't want to stand between you and love
Honey, I just want you to feel fine
I don't want to know the reasons why
Love keeps right on walking on down the line
I don't want to stand between you and love
Honey, I just want you to feel fine
Finally baby
The truth has been told
Now you tell me that I'm crazy
It's nothing that I didn't know
Trying to survive
Oh you say you love me, but you don't know
You got me rocking and a-reeling
Hey I want you oh oh yeah uh huh
I don't want to know the reasons why
Love keeps right on walking on down the line

Yup. Stevie wrote it about her relationship with Lindsey.
They wrote this album when Stevie and Lindsay and john and Christie were breaking up!
Great, classic album. Every song on it is good...IMO
You guys need to check out the song Songbird and OH Daddy sang by the other female singer Christie McVai Songbird might make you cry its that pretty.
Silver Springs live is EPIC!!!!
Self titled Fleetwood Mac album, just before Rumours, was just as good.
Tango In The Night rocks by them.
Yeah they aired their dirty laundry more than most bands.
This song was squeezed in as a replacement for Silver Spring, which got shoved off this album “for length.” It’s a great song. Silver Spring is better and the deletion almost caused the band to breakup.
