It's interesting to note that in estonian language, south is "lõuna" (etelä in finnish) and southwest is "edel" (lounas in finnish).
Sorry, I didn't see your comment until now! Yes indeed, for some reason the languages have evolved differently here. Also, I understand "kirja" (a book) is "raamat" in Estonian. "Raamattu" is "the Bible" in Finnish, so that's a bit similar.

Far from here = kaukana täältä, near here = tässä lähellä or just lähellä.
