Wizard is so fun, but so hard to balance around. As an abject chaos style of ST (who has probably less fun then the players funnily enough), Wizard wishes are wild. My favorite, and only wish ive dealt with so far randomized all players roles. So I just reracked and didnt tell anyone (as a specific of the wizard wish). The cost was the fisherman was no longer once per game, the hint was that the wizard made his wish public so no hint neccessary. That was a very exhausting game.
I think the way Arif ruled it was fine and I definitely wouldn't have come up with this in the moment but it would have been funny to use the wizard v wizard shenanigans to have clocktowers first ever draw. The evil wizard cost is that Matt can register as both good and evil at the same time and the good wizard cost is that good no longer automatically wins ties and boom! A draw! Previously thought impossible
I think Matt's first wish turning him, publicly, evil would've been funny "okay, you're now the goblin, you are evil", but I think just letting the game end was the right call. There's no need to extend a fun casual game like that and publicly outing someone ruins their game. The other option could've been making him unable to be executed/have the fool's ability, but you'd run into the same problem of it sorta ruining Matt's game. I have all the time to think about this and I'm legitimately not sure what the cost should've been lol, can't imagine trying while under time pressure
First game: weird stuff happens, "it's a wizard!" Second game: weird stuff happens "It's a wizard!" Third game: weird stuff happens "I'm pretty sure this could only happen because of an amnesiac, everyone." Also Arif storytelling is just loads of fun, keep it up, you're doing great! (≧▽≦)
I dig the wizard games, and these... more sensible wishes have been nice. Some of the absolutely nutty wishes that people have been doing lately have been fun as one-offs, but I do enjoy having games especially like the last one that are more... normal-adjacent BotC. Wouldn't mind seeing a few non-wizard games woven in now.
The Wizard is weird as half the time the wish is very deliberately not meant to help evil so much as it is to just create chaos. It kind of makes me wish it had been a traveller just so that they could travel in, create chaos, dip out and then just watch from the sidelines the way we do. But it's almost... not a minion? Sometimes it very much is. I watched a game recently where the wizard just became a poisoner and added chaos. But another recent one was just "The al-Hadikia chooses 4 people" made by a good wizard just to mess with the ST (Who was also Arif in this case) Note: This isn't a criticism of either the players or the character. (I'm typing this during the intro before the wish has even been made). It's just something that I thought about and I needed something for the algo anyway.
Prior to wizard my fave games were always amne and/or athiest games because I think BoTC is at it's best when it's just literal insanity (hence BMR being my fave official script) but the wizard just turns that up to 1000 AND I always root for evil no matter what so having an evil chaos role is a genuine dream come true, I don't know how I can go back to watching non-wizard games after this 😭
Would have been kind of funny to register the actual Alchemist as an actual Wizard to the Philosopher's ability, meaning that they were not drunk Also absurdly strong, but it would have been funny
My Wizard wish (if I ever got to play with one), I would state in town square "You know I always wanted to play the Vizer, I wish I was the Viser" because well I'm always up for open evil :) (or I wish I was the Leach, also wished publically)
hm i think a working cost for matts wish would have been that the minimum votecount required is reduced or something like that... or that a single evil vote is enough to lift matt off the block but yeah that one was hard to just do a cost for in the moment with that much time pressure... its not like you can wait till nighttime to think it through was pretty funny though XD
A silly amne ability for game 3 could’ve had to do with giving some players negative vote counts. Maybe their vote and one other player they selected counted as -1 votes? Too anti wizard? Maybe there’s other things like this that could work.
wait, if a philo becomes alchemist in night 1, the alchemist becomes drunk and doesn't learn the correct minion. So far so good. But the REAL minion's ability should not be drunk, right?
I was watching another ST (don’t remember if it was Ben or someone else) talk about insta win wishes like Matt’s wish and they basically said they would be hesitant to grant them as stated or they would put in a cost to modify the wish to keep the game going. So, if it were me, I would have made the cost that someone would have been executed/died in Matt’s place the first time he was voted to be executed, just because I think a retroactive, immediate game winning wish like this one is slightly unfair. I don’t know if I would have taken it as well as the other players is in this game did if I had been on the evil team.
@@jesoko6724 that’s fair, and it’s why I put the disclaimer at the beginning of the game. Getting Wizard wishes right can be tough, and I’m lucky that the players in this group understand that. Wins and losses aren’t important here
I would have made the cost being that the Yagglebabble's kill (which the Yagglebabble DID have pending) would kill him immediately. So now 1) there is a dead goblin on the block, which doesn't end the game if executed since dead players have no ability 2) The Yaggababble should be rewarded for saying the phrase. This is by far the best kill for the Yaggababble since it saves the game for team evil
I think it’s tough, as you also want to make sure the cost doesn’t *completely* neutralise the wizard, otherwise it essentially turns into an evil villager with a headache for the ST. In hindsight, it was a silly wish I did because I thought it was funny, as opposed to wanting to win - ironically I felt bad for winning 😂 which is why I did the wish in the open rather than in private. The best thing about Arif and this group is none of us minded what happened. If my wish didn’t work, or if we had to run the vote again, etc it’d still have been funny for me (and hopefully everyone else too) :) the main thing is know your team.

It's one of the wishes that you grant once and then never again. You don't have to grant a wish.
