Anthony Newley was amazing live and gladly these wondrous clips keep his music alive and the memory of his awesome performances around to be enjoyed over and over...you are missed Mr. Newley!
I loved Tony Newley with all my heart - wonderful beautiful mind and and soul - sadness like I've never known with the passing of this underrated legend. Thank you for posting this. Short story - I saw him live in Vegas in a small room (Sands or Sahara?) - at the end of the set he came out for his bow and said "Thank you - you were wonderful, but then... so was I". I'll never forget that I was blessed to be there.
This song will always be special to me. Tony was the most special individual, accomplished in everything he did. A beautiful person inside and out. Bravo Tony for all the magic, you will always be loved! xx
It's almost a privilige to listen and watch this performance. I could weep at the power the emotions expressed ... never heard or seen this before. Thanks.
I can't stop listening to this song! It has such reality! lyrics to first 2 verses These words, taste life dying in my mouth but I promised you a love song and I have to wind my memory ‘til it plays we left so much unsaid spreading love between the sandwich of our days Are you, still then somewhere long ago. with a glow as fresh as morning and your eyes as wise as childrens always are starting life with a kiss and this old traveling salesman that I call my heart
"Wearing your heart on your sleeve" is correct. Newley was, in some ways, the greatest male torch singer of all time. His movements remind me very much of Garland. My biggest thrill was, as a 17-year-old, sitting in the third row and seeing "The Roar of the Greasepaint, the Smell of the Crowd" the week it opening in New York City.
(Chorus) It was madness, little dancer. I can see you down the days, your tiny hands pretending that they knew the way. And every time you touched me, there was thunder in the music, and reason was a stranger in the wonder and the danger of your dance. (verse 2) Ah, you were spring... Winter came too soon, and her tune became your love song and although your girl needs time, your love song plays. I feel you in my arms, dancing through the music of our yesterdays. (chorus repeats)
They don't make them like Newley anymore, and more's the pity. And this is coming from a true hard rocker. I wish more rockers had the singing and writing talent Anthony had!
My goodness. If ever there was a personal heart on sleeve performance it's this. So wonderful, so poignant and so very, very ....... sad. I hope he found happiness .. or something like it.
Wonderful - especially knowing it's a song of genuine -but lost - love. I suspect it was far too personal to be included routinely in his act, probably evoked too painful memories ... a hear-on-sleeve performance and all the better for it.

lyrics to first 2 verses
These words, taste life
dying in my mouth
but I promised you a love song
and I have to wind my memory ‘til it plays
we left so much unsaid
spreading love between the sandwich of our days
Are you, still then
somewhere long ago.
with a glow as fresh as morning
and your eyes as wise as childrens always are
starting life with a kiss
and this old traveling salesman that I call my heart

Great song! Anybody know its title and if its available commercially?
I think this video is taken from this mythic place called "Monte Carlo Sporting Club" in "La Salle des Etoiles". I'm not sure of that.
