Meet Matt's new daily driver: a 1987 Porsche 911 Carrera modified by The Keen Project into a streetable "Safari" car. Inspired by the 911 SC/RS of the mid-1980's, racer and builder Leh Keen, has turned Matt's car into the ultimate city-and-weekend 911. Featuring a 3.2L flat-six engine built by BBI Autosport and tweaked by GoldCrest Motorsports, body and paint work by Classic Livery of Atlanta, and BF Goodrich A/T K02 Tires mounted on Braid RSR-Style wheels with a properly wild interior, this 911 brings fun, capability, character, and flair to Matt's personal garage.
Check out Matt's original off-road test of Keen Project Safari #1 here!

For me 300 - 400 hp is the soft spot for sportscar. They're quick enough but not too quick to get you far beyond the speed limit in 3 seconds. They're more fun cause you need to work them a bit harder than you would with 500 +bhp cars. And ultimately give you more smile as well.

It feels like Matt has been zoning in on a car he really wants that can do everything. Naturally, there's been a lot of trial and error in the process. The increased ride height is such a big deal for daily driving, especially in L.A. I drive a pretty low car, and it's annoying having to slow down and avoid every bump and pothole. Trucks can do this, but they drive like shit. Ariel Nomads can do it while driving great, but have zero creature comforts. The 911 safari seems like the best compromise between both. Beautiful car.

The rough idle at startup is probably due to a combination of bigger cams, modified fuel system (assuming it doesn't have a factory cold start anymore?) and if fitted forged pistons etc. The flywheel wouldn't make that much of a difference. Is it still running mechanical injection, or is it running an ECU now? Always a trade off with a modified engine, but IMHO, it adds to the experience and the theatre of a car such as this.

Gotta say, I'm 100% behind this. Wild colors and all.
Matt, you might remember me from last year, you did a video of my 510 wagon. I recently moved to Portland, OR and the roads up here are trash. I ended up buying a WD21 Pathfinder as a partial daily to supplement the B-13 SE-R. It even has a wild 90s blue interior that matches the exterior paint. Damn thing charges everything the NW throws at it on and off roads. Now all I can think about is "huh, what if I did the opposite of what I did to the Sentra the first time (lowered it, grippy tires) and built a badass little rally Sentra...." Pretty sure Rally-style is the future of urban car culture -- stay ahead of the curve my dude.

At first i was skeptical. After watching the video I think this 911 is awesome! Living in WV over here on the east coast, I do a lot of multi terrain drives in my modified Suzuki Sidekick. While it can do a bit more than you would want to take the Safari 911 on, most of the time I'm just driving a mix of dirt roads and paved sometimes rough and patchy roads. This 911 would be perfect for that and faster and more fun to boot.

This has inspired me to put some white-letter KO2s on my lowered Dakota R/T. After 10 years I've finally given up on the Dakota ever being a trackable pro-touring sport truck, so now I want to go for more of a Mad Max rally muscle truck. It's always been a stupid and impractical machine, and that's not changing. But at least now I'll be able to drive it in winter without being immediately killed. And when I take the dirt bikes to the staging area, I won't be dragging summer street tires over gravel.
