didnt say they were not working. He just stating not a regular job. I raced. Its not something most people can do. Very small % even get to race stock dirt tracks. let alone make a career out of it. Far from a regular job...... not as easy as most think it to be.
You're right, I think the word regular threw me off a litlle. (english not being my first language) Regular can mean something You do regularly vs somtehing that is common in society. So Race car driving is surely outside of the realm off being a common thing for people to do in order to make money.

It's a Behind the scenes period series about the Johnny Carson show workings and crew/writers it's a comedy/drama. Pretty good too. Also, I would not call professional car racing a “regular job,” it is similar to playing professional sports or being an actor in that it is a career in the public spotlight.

I have a friend who races Go Kart's professionally. These are pro Karts though. They do 80 miles an hour. He's all over the world when he's driving. When he's at home or off season, he's building custom karts for people. He manages a business through that. It's not as odd as you think. At the end of the day, he makes his income from driving and building.

To add one name to the list: Jay Arlen Jones (Eight Legged Freaks, The Patriot)Not sure what he's doing these days, but several years ago I worked with him at an aircraft maintenance facility. He actually attended Thanksgiving dinner at my house that year. Honestly one of the most fun people to be around you'd ever meet. Our conversations never really got into the details of why he left Hollywood. I can tell you that it wasn't for a lack of talent. He had a way of telling a story that just kept you laughing and waiting for the next twist to unfold. Great guy.

The scriptwriters gave him some terrible lines to work with, but he still managed to pull off a brilliant performance which makes him all the more impressive.
