  • In this video i show you how i make my own silver clay and sculpting a small scull pendant.
    Disclaimer:
    The quality of the silver clay resulting from the recipe you see in the video is by no means comparable with commercial clay brands like Art clay,PMC,Prometius or other brands.
    However as you can see in the video, its possible to make stunning fine silver creations.

    I am an artist from Germany and because of my Multiple Sclerosis and resulting severe disabilities, I sadly can‘t work anymore to have a regular income. Just having my disability-retirement, these silver art clays always were way to expensive for me, to just mess around with and make jewellery and such. When I searched, if there was a way to make such clay myself, your video came up. This is amazing and gives me (at least a tiny bit) hope, that I can work with silver clay in the future. 😅 Thank you very much for sharing this and many greetings from Düsseldorf! Chris

    Wow wow wow!!! In YEARS of bullion collecting and slowly moving over to jewelry design, Is never even HEARD OF silver clay before!! I’m not a sculptor in the SIGHTEST, and I won’t even try my hand at wax carving yet, but this awesome method would be FAB for stenciling or doing imprints, and then you simply just FIRE IT!?!?!? I wish you’d not cut to the finishing so fast so we could have seen the total color change and quenching at the end of ftorching. I’m literally going to spend the whole night researching silver clay, now! CHEERS MATE

      The point is you have to get close to the melting point of silver ( 900 C - 910 C). The particles stick together as a solid mass. It's not like you have regular pored silver. You cant bend, form or shape it, it breaks.

    Hoi Roger, bedankt voor dit filmpje! Ik heb 2 vragen;
    Is het niet nodig om iets toe voegen om het salpeterzuur te neutraliseren? (Ammoniak bv)
    Is het van belang om bepaalde hoeveelheden aan te houden?

    • @RogerJonker
      @RogerJonker  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Nee niet nodig
      Als je zilver gaat oplossen in salpeterzuur zal het zuur volledig omgezet worden naar zilvernitraat.
      Wat wel belangrijk is dat je overtollig zilver erin doet .
      Als je het op een warmhoudplaatje een dag laat oplossen moet er altijd zilver over zijn wat niet opgelost is.
      Zo weet je zeker dat er geen salpeter meer over is.
      NOOIT Ammoniak bij zilvernitraat doen!!!
      Er ontstaat een zilver ammoniak verbinding die explosief is!!!

      Hoi
      Ja, de sterkte van het zuur was zo ongeveer 53%.
      Het is echter niet zo belangrijk voor het maken van zilvernitraat.
      Zelfs een 10% sterkte is voldoende om zilver op te lossen, het gaat dan wel iets langer duren.
      Belangrijk is wel dat alle zuur heeft kunnen reageren en dat aan het eind zilverresten over zijn.

    Hi there! Im so sorry for adding another question after you've gotten so many already. But i was wondering of you could please help me with the process if i have all the ingredients, but all in powder form? I am only confused at the fact that everything was mixed in liquid form and i was wondering if it was only because the silver nitrate was already in liquid form after being processed. Gosh! I dont even know if i am asking my question correctly.lol im so sorry. Would i be able to mix all the powders together in a coffee grinder or something, then add the water to get the clay consistency?

      What would be the fun in that? And maybe the ingredients are just unreactive in dry form, but when dissolved in water become very different players. Some research into chemistry principles might answer your questions - good luck!
