Because the bosses want a younger audience,it's all grime and shit commercial pop dance now....90s early 20s are a thing of the past now.what a time to be alive, mark and lard, the word, tfi Friday, big breakfast, nothing like them now it's all so bland
I,I,I,I,I,I,I,I,I,I,I've been waiting at the train station with a catapult and some cat faeces just in case Craig David turns up. Best line on the radio ever.
Heard them on Radio 6 this afternoon and it brought back great memories. Plus there getting back together for an evening with Mark and Lard...brilliant 😁
Greatest radio duo of all time, without exception. I think when Don McLean sang " the day the music died" it was a premonition of these two leaving the airwaves. God I miss their humour 😢
@@iaingeddes4288I remember people at work wondering how they got away with it, and they thought it was mostly their use of exaggerated accents, funny voices and voice modulators (especially fat Harry White) which 'serious' listeners (and would-be complainers) probably wouldn't understand, or just dismiss as 'silly'.
I bloody love the guys. I go down a Mark & Lard rabbit hole every few months. Seen The Shirehorses at The Garage in Glasgow and had a shout out from them once.
I've listened to rather a lot of Mark n Lards uploads recently & cant beleive how excellent they were. Imagine radio 1 having a sense of humour nowadays 🤣🤣 Quite unlikely.
@@voice.of.reasonYou might like to look into the history of 1990s radio, and the lingering ill-effects of Moyles (actually Stern, who he copied) and the more 'real' and 'relatable' entourage/sidekick 'dynamics'. No need for sketches, characters or carefully-produced pastiches or jingles (which Kenny Everett actually made by splicing tape together) anymore.
I just wanted to tell Mark Radcliffe how much I enjoy his books. I own all of them, I find Mark such a clever and funny writer. If you read this Mark, Thank you so much for entertaining me with your books for all these years. Ps, your not a bad DJ either !
Mark& lards take on fat harrywhite driving round in his soft top bedford rascal just makes brilliant image i still think about today along with steve wrights ask elvis good memories for a passed time in the 80/90s thanks for these catch up clips RIp steve wright 😢😢
i listen to them at least once a month on earphones when welding , pure genius , bless you lads great days radio will never be same again, lefty muppet DJs today not good. Must grumble. Mark n Lard in afternoon Evans on TGIF evening then out with the lads friday night. Oh Yes
It was tragic timing that Matthew Bannister & his henchman Trevor Dann cancelled the summer-long Radio 1 Roadshows, & deprived the nation of hearing Mark & Lard live from Westward Ho, Seaton Carew or Swanage...it would have been an absolute riot of live radio...👌😢🙏
The funniest i ever herd these two was when they done a thing called indepth reportage. It was lard in every interview doing the same voice. They used to interview a person in the news that day and they spoke to a manager of a hotel who did circumcisions in the dinning room. I laughed so much when he described the breakfast they served i had to stop my taxi before i crashed it.
I remember they had a bit where listeners would suggest song titles to news stories and lardy boy cracking up over REM's sidewinder sleeps tonight as a suggestion for some now long forgotten news item. He couldn't get his shit together for ages!
I think that was the Cheesily Cheerful Chart Challenge (rip off of the Triple Tracker by Nicky Campbell). There was another one that cracked them up when (I think) Katie Price was the subject and someone suggested Swords of a thousand Men by Ten Pole Tudor!
My favourite memories of radio consist of these two reprobates. Groundbreaking, alternative at the time and probably never to happen again unfortunately. Oh! and it was funny and entertaining. Life today is dull. Zero entertainment. What have we done to the world?
Well that waa a fun filled hour and 20 mins. Loved these guys back in the day. What has happened to radio? Steve Wright back on radio 1 in the 80s and on radio 2, funny. These guys, funny. Terry Wogans Janet and John, funny. Nothing like it now. No humour in the world anymore.
Used to listen in the 90s when I worked in a warehouse on my first job leaving school, I remember they did a slipknot parody bit , laughed my tits off I did
How did they get away with this stuff? It's brilliant. I remember the mystery word thing they did, and one day, it was FISTING. Absolutely bonkers that during the middle of the day on Radio One, they could ever get away with any of this. Nowadays, people would be crying, but it was just brilliant humour pushing the boundaries. With Moyles, these two, and Colin and Edith, Radio One was cooking back then.
Hi, I appreciate the reply, I know the corner shop track but that’s more like the music bed for when they talk I was talking about the intro music if only I could hum it and you’d know it🤷♀️
Listening to this genius in 2024- listened to the Duo religiously when they were on- still making me belly laugh- why oh why were they replaced???

Soo correct 😢😢😢
Stereophonics...
I’m so glad I was born when I was. Fanny’s too tight to mention, peak hours, on mainstream radio. Not now methinks. Godlike genius

loved this. shame that this type of show wouldn't get aired now. happy to have been along for the journey 2 to 4pm, the crack of the afternoon.
This show & Steve wright's was easily the best radio in the 90s & noughties. You dont hear anything like it anymore.

They are doing a UK tour next year, not the same as being back on the radio, but might be a good larf!
Just properly laughing at this, forget how good this was and how good they were. Wouldn't get anywhere near the radio these days....😂
Those were the days ❤

The best radio duo ever.
Fuck me this takes me back. Does anyone have a link to the soundbite of Lard going “oh yesss” with the slight whistle at the end??
Radio has changed.. and it ain't better

Hi, I appreciate the reply, I know the corner shop track but that’s more like the music bed for when they talk I was talking about the intro music if only I could hum it and you’d know it🤷♀️
I met Mark Radcliffe once and asked him this same question. It was the theme from 'Danger Man'.
