I really love your work, but your tutorials and your tags make me have a very good time and laugh 😂 , I have been hanging around TH-cam for a year looking something really work for me. I took a couple courses in Domeska (Spain website) to get in to he photography world. Now I got my sony camera and a kit lense, Adobe subscription and capture one and a powerful computer, to approach my dream came true. Thanks for being an inspiration for me and many others. Been doing this technique for years, but when asked I explained it to folks like this: Shoot two "plates": the first shot is the scene/POV/Subject; the second shot/plate is with the light source IN the photo- and ON the Subject. In post, Erase the Light= Final (a Subject well-lit, a light/stand removed) In this shot....you could even go (3) plates: 1st: Basic Scene, without the horse/model. 2nd: Horse/Model included 3rd: Light added to Model/Horse. I ALWAYS use a tripod so the shots are perfectly aligned.

I will say, using a tripod does make it a bit better...you probably won't need the auto align step. But I hear you about it being an extra annoying step. Using a mono-pod may be a good in-between compromise. Also another thing you can do if you use a tripod, is take a picture of the scene without the model or your assistant/light. Then in photoshop, just 'paint in' your lit model over the base background. Both method work equally well, but I found in some scenarios, the latter is a better option. Good video though! :)

Use a tripod for both the shots. There, frame will match 100% pixel by pixel.

Modifier was a magsphere. You can also use a small octabox softbox.

You're a cool guy, Eli. I'd like to point out two things - 1st - use a tripod if you're not too lazy for this.
And 2nd - as you said you're doing high-end retouch. If *ANY* filters are involved, this isn't a high end work. FS is a banned technique when it comes to high-end retouch. Just saying. :) Keep up the enthusiasm and the good work, mate. Cheers.
