    developments in engineering drawing is the simplest topic bt with this video it seems as if it is a big deal to come up with the development of a truncated cone surface

      Thank for your comment! I agree it is quite easy to develop a cone. However, it may get challenging for some students to understand the development of a sectioned cone. I am happy to know that you found it easy. My intention was not to make it look difficult, but some students may wish to understand every step at their pace. With practice, one can be faster in engineering drawing. Thanks for your interest!

    If you were to add sections to make a 45 degree, what would need to change between each segment? And how do you determine the height of the O°mark?

    • @1styearengineeringdrawing182
      @1styearengineeringdrawing182  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for asking. Sorry, I did not get the question clearly. The section is currently making 45 degree with the base of the cone. The height of the cone is given in the question as 65 mm. So you draw the axis of the cone and measure 65 mm from the base to fix point O. Please also watch (different but similar problem): th-cam.com/video/P9cSOUKg6xw/w-d-xo.html

    Dude!! If you simply take chord length from the orthographic view and mark it on your development, the notion of development being in TRUE LENGTH is lost. Just visualise, summimg up all your small interval lengths on the development will NOT give 2πr. It will be less than that. However, if a cone is literally cut open, the unwound circular curve will give the length 2πr. Hope you get it!!

    • @1styearengineeringdrawing182
      @1styearengineeringdrawing182  6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Dear Onkar, you are perfectly right. The chord method will not give the true length of curved edge of the developed cone. The idea was to find the developed surface without any calculation. Dividing the top view circle into 12 parts was aimed at reducing the error we may introduce. As you increase the number of divisions in the top view, you are going to reduce the error. Imagine, dividing the arc into very large number of chords will bring the error to very small (acceptable) value.
      For exact solution, we will need to calculate the angle that the developed cone surface will have. This is give as angle, theta = 360 (cone base radius/cone slant length). Cone slant length is the length of the generator of the cone. Angle Theta is the angle the fully developed cone will make at the apex. This is fine if you are developing a complete cone which is not sectioned any where.
      Now, for sectioning problem, you need to divide and re-divide this angle Theta until you have divided this angle into 8 or 12 parts (as the case may be). You can draw the generators at those angles and follow the remaining procedure.
      Thanks for bringing a very valid point!👍

    The heights as measured aren’t the true heights radially, they by rights should be measured at each segment. Squaring them off to one side doesn’t accurately measure them pick the lengths up off the points of intersection. Not taking away from the video being helpful because I knew I’d missed a process in developing the cone, but as a fabricator I’d probably end up swearing a bit because of gaps in fitup. Wire comes by the kilo though so that’ll fix it. Don’t call it canyoncraft without reason.

      Dear Matt, Thanks for the comments. I am not sure I have understood your questions correctly. I would appreciate if you could ask the question with mention of the time in the video. Thanks.
      Just trying to understand your first question. My answer is that the length of each generator (sectioned) should be measured at the side most generator only then we can get true length.

      Thanks for your comment. There is a setting at the right lower side of TH-cam video where you can set the video speed. This particular video has no sound so that make it easier to follow without the annoying high pitch sound when you increase the speed of the video.
