I'd like to point out a possible reason for why Celestia having to send Twilight might feel as heavy as it does. (It is heavy as it is, but this adds even more to it.) It is in the phrasing "I have to *send her away*." Before now, Luna's banishment has not been referred to as Celestia "sending her away" if I remember correctly ..... except for in one certain fan creation.

Well wouldn't it be cool to see Lightning Dust and Wind Rider returning as Shadowbolts in this season or the next ? Think about it. A lot of fans say that a Wonderbolts vs Shadowbolts episode would be amazing and we would find out that the Shadowbolts really existed, Nightmare moon only borrowed them. In season 1 episode 2 while the main 6 were helping the sea serpent Nightmare moon discoverd the hideout of the Shadowbolts. She peeked in and saw how they look like. This gave her an idea. And when the main 6 arrived to the broken bridge Nightmare moon took the form of 3 pegasuses and copied the Shadowbolts uniforms. Thats how she was trying to fool Rainbow Dash. In short Nightmare moon actually IMPERSONATED the Shadowbolts. And think about it: if Nightmare moon was locked away for a 1000 years she couldn't have heard of the Wonderbolts to create the Shadowbolts to fool Rainbow Dash right? But when Nightmare moon was trying to fool Rainbow Dash she was unaware that the Shadowbolts leader Nightshade secretly followed her and saw everything in the bushes. When the Shadowbolts make their appearance Nightshade would tell Rainbow Dash what really happened, and would say that the Shadowbolts could really use Rainbow Dash on their theme, but Rainbow refuses. After that Nightshade would say: - Pretty big words from someone who was a Shadowbolt once! Rainbow wouldn't understand what she's talking about and Nightshade shows a photo to Rainbow, and on the photo we can see Rainbow Dash in her season 2 Nightmare night costume. Lightning Dust challenges Rainbow for a race and Lightning wins by cheating. So now Rainbow has to join the Shadowbolts and her friends have to come up with a way to save her. And the more time Rainbow spends With the Shadowbolts the more she gives in to her darker side and she pulls more pranks. Celestial has always felt like a caring mother figure for Twilight, and it really shows in this episode. The way Twilight reassures her mentor that she’ll always need her is simply sweet and touching.
JROG1989 Celestia is no troll as she said wasn't laughing at twilight. In reality she was laughing at herself she doing the exact same thing. If anyone is a troll it's discord and he proves it over and over again.
7:08 Discord saying that Starlight is beyond basic friendship lessons because she earned a medal might be accurate, but let's not forget, Trixie also earned that same medal, and she obviously could learn a few.
This reminds me when Discord give Twilight half of a golden medal for being a good friend of his (complete with a mission outside of Equestria to face danger in company of a cuasi-recurrent character).
Celestial Advice did more to make Celestia a character than any other episode so far. I'm amused that apparently Twilight picked up her tendency towards paranoia from her mentor. It's also interesting that apparently it was Celestia's plan to send Twilight to Ponyville for years, but she kept putting it off because she didn't want to let Twilight go. (And hints she had at least an inkling the other bearers were there.)All Bottled Up was a great episode for Trixie and Starlight. Trixie was just so adorable with her excitement when she figured out the teacup transfiguration spell. I'm beginning to think Trixie's true talent really is magic, she's just never bothered to properly learn. Though it may be slanted more towards illusion and flashy performances than Twilight's feats of power. Maybe Trixie had a series of poor teachers and settled for tricks and stagecraft when she thought she never would be better. (Leading to the need to tell all those tall tales to make herself sound great and powerful, which is what she wanted.)
Well remember that Celestia and Luna got the elements of harmony from a tree, and they had the mane six's cutie marks on them, so Celestia probably assumed that Twilight and the other five would be important somehow. (My new headcanon thanks to this episode) Also remember that Celestia has dream visions, we don't know how powerful they are either so they might have also hinted at Twilight and friends being important.
Interesting theory. But there's one little problem with it: from what I remembered, the Elements of Harmony changed to the mane six's cutie marks after Nightmare Moon shattered them and they restored a while later, connecting with mane six as their new wielders. Before that, they were shaped just like some regular gems. And they were in that form when took from the tree by Celestia and Luna.
Indeed, most of the elements did not take their current form until they bonded with the Mane 6. Still, Celestia would have known the names of the elements, and perhaps she saw those traits strongly present in those ponies in Ponyville. Also, the large purple star portion of Twilight's cutie mark WAS present on the Tree of Harmony when Celestia and Luna found it, and the gem that was the element of magic also had that same shape when Celestia and Luna used them. Celestia had to have seen the connection between Twilight and the element of magic when she first saw Twilight's cutie mark, sort of a fulfillment of prophecy. Only question is whether she realized that the others were also destined to be bearers of the other elements. And let's not forget that Celestia was absent during the incident with Nightmare Moon. This could be because she couldn't bear to face Nightmare Moon again, OR, it could've been because she knew that Twilight and the others had to face her in order to unlock the elements' power. My head canon is that Celestia became unable to use the elements after she abused their power by banishing Nightmare Moon to the moon for 1000 years, because that was not an act of harmony. Perhaps she knew that the elements were the only thing that could save Nightmare Moon, and that Twilight and friends were destined to become the true bearers of the elements. In that case, it makes sense that she stepped aside, because her involvement might have ruined the chances of that happening, and she would've been forced to fight Nightmare Moon once again, this time without the help of the elements to assist her, meaning she probably would have lost the fight this time.
Trixie was unable to perform "real" (as in: physical) magic because she lacked both proper training and "The Spark" from genuine and honest feelings. Friendship is Magic: She got that missing "extra dot" in her pupils after finding, losing, and regaining her first true best friend.
The official book "Journal of the Two Sisters" tells the story. It basically goes something like this: before Celestia and Luna became Equestria's rulers, it was the unicorns who moved the sun and moon each day. But the amount of magic it took was far too great for ordinary unicorns, who risked losing their magic forever. Realizing they have more power than the average pony, Celestia and Luna relieved the unicorns' burden by raising the sun and moon themselves. And thus they earned their cutie marks together.
Indeed, I highly recommend reading the Journal of the Two Sisters. That book is proper show canon too, btw, as it is referenced directly in the Castle Mane-ia episode. It was listed by title, and some passages from it were quoted word for word directly by Twilight.
i love Celestia's new personality in Ep1 and the fact that she's more than just regal and princess like, she has actual emotions. who knew? Trixie learning magic? oh boy
This episode made me love Thorax's new design. I already liked it, but now that I know Thorax's original sweet, adorkable personality is still intact, I love it. :D

What an interestingly fun way to open S7. I'm happy that Celestia's getting more involved in the first episode. Seeing that flashback and more of her relationship with Twilight was lovely. However, I'm still waiting for her very own episode like Luna. It was really nice to see a lot of familiar faces as well. I'm also glad that Trixie is getting more screen time, she's becoming more entertaining every time!
Hehe, yep. They also got the elements of harmony, which are sort of like medals, and they were properly honored with a ceremony as well. Glad to see Starlight and the others got proper recognition for their heroics.
Not sure, kinda hope so though. Hope to see more Derpy as well. I double-checked, and couldn't see Derpy anywhere in the ceremony at Twilight's castle, despite having practically everypony else there. :-(

Actually you may be right :q First she befriended Twilight's former biggest enemy, then she's taking lessons from her about powerful magic, sits in Twilight's throne like if it was her own, and the first thing she did after learning teleportation spell?: she teleported Twilight's cutie map to a random place :P Oh, and she tricked Starlight into anger rages right after she told her that her magic comes from her emotions :q I bet every Sith lord would approve :J
I really love how these episodes change the status quo of the formula from first season episodes. Also, Discord´s cheese-jokes, he truly is an avatar of Sheogorath XD Finally, Celestia´s laugh was among the most epic moments in the series according to me XD
Yeah, Celestia sure loves her pink hearts and throwing them at people to make their masculinity fly away :q They remind me of that badge she gave to Phoenix Wright in "Turnabout Storm" ;D As for Twilight: yeah, I noticed that too. Twilight was utterly broken in her last "fantasy": Since the mixed spell was designed to retrieve something that was "lost in the past" it means Starlight could never come back. The fact that Spike considered necesary to remind Twilight about it not being real says something (he also noticed the same back in "Lesson Zero" [S2E03]).

I always watch the episodes right after they premiere and then right after that I go straight to your channel and watch your reaction to everything, it makes me happy that you're happy and reminds me of how passionate and great the mlp fandom is :)

Celestia is best mom. She’s such a wise mentor and seems like a parental figure to twilight more than her actual parents since we don’t really see legitimate interactions with them
Is it just me or is Episode 2 full of allegory’s or references to other stories? 27:30 Tea cakes and tea cups it´s Alice in Wonderland (The mad Hatter). 34:50 Saying: "dark cloud hanging over my head". 35:20 "bottled up anger". 40:20 Simple: "Everyone is going nuts".
"A Good Start" is probably quite the understatement! XD Not sure if it is too early to call them the Mane 8 with Trixie... Maybe 9 if Discord gets as much screen time as Starlight got last season. ;) But you know, I've always thought Unicorn's had varying levels of magic that wouldn't really change, like Twilight was a natural 10, Starlight a natural 12, Lyra a natural 2, and Trixie a natural 4, and that's where it kind of stayed. A teleport spell would need a 6 or more. I suppose with intense training (or other external help like potions or amulets) one could get it higher, but never thought Trixie had it in her. Disappointed that she could only go so far, but she had a knack for smokes and mirrors, and so went with that. But if this can be done with Trixie, then maybe Sunburst could become quite the Wizard. Or maybe she just couldn't be bothered to take the time to study it all (a drop-out?).
I think different Unicorns have varying levels of spellcasting ability. Some are more naturally gifted than others, and some can become much better with hard training, but some will always be more limited. It seems as though Sunburst worked QUITE hard to become a wizard, and apparently failed (though we haven't seen exactly how he failed). On the other hoof, I get the feeling that Trixie, for one reason or another, just never got in a position where she was able to receive proper training to develop her spellcasting abilities. I think she falls into the category of somewhat gifted, but needing to work hard to train and develop her abilities.
1:08:16 Transfiguration, in the how the word is used to define a class of magic, is just reshaping an object into a different one. Example: turning a human into a stone statue or a glass salt shaker into a porcelain tea cup. You’re not replacing the target with another one or pulling it from nowhere, you’re just changing the shape/form of an object into something completely different. Technically speaking, Transformation and Transmutation both fall under Transfiguration as well. The only nitpicky details between them being the change generally stays in the same category as the object being changed. Transmutation dealing with minerals and the like (Example: turning lead into gold) while Transformation deals with things like turning animals into different types of animals.
I really need to start going into these completely spoiler free from now on, but new episode info is just SO TEMPTING! Loved the premiere though, both episodes were fantastic. Lady writers will do very well as story editors.
Ok random thought of the day, this is for everyone, in each season what's the first song you think of? Mine are, in order: S1: Winter Wrap Up S2: Smile S3: Raise This Barn S4: You'll Play Your Part S5: We'll Make Our Mark Reprise S6: Find The Purpose In Your Life S7: Flawless They're the songs that come to my head immediately when I think about each season. They're pretty amazing in my opinion!
That thought did occur to me as well. I don't necessarily think they'll replace the Mane 6, but it does seem like they are starting to build some very strong supporting cast members that are breathing some new life into the show. I would love to see some other past secondary characters come back into focus again, because if they rely on Trixie too much, it will get a bit old.
At 13:29 during Twilight's fantasy about Starlight moving to the Changeling hive: the changeling that transformed into Starlight uses magic to conjure a flyswatter to smack other changelings. So can changelings use the powers of what they transform into? If so, you'd figure one sixth of an army of changelings that had transformed into Twilight Sparkle back in the season two finale should have made quick work out of the mane six.
Spike was insistent on how "unrealistic" the "fantasies" of Twilight were about the behavior of Starlight, Thorax and Ember. For example: A trickster changedling like that "red bad one" would think of a better way to "trigger" their own kind than resorting to insults and violence. It was a case of: Twilight thinks that -> A changedling would think that -> a pony like Starlght would think that -> they look like bugs and have stupid names. It is more recursive than a fractal totem on limbo [Inception]
With thorax with the wacky glasses is just too funny. I paused it where it would show it and it was HILARIOUS!!! there has to be an episode where discord and thorax hang out.....
Well we know from Sombra's return it is canon that Celestia gets prophetic visions of what's coming. My opinion of Trixie may be shaped by the Equsetria Girls one but if this one has those elements of insecurity (She states Starlight is her first friend) then she may be just looking for Validation from her friend who's normally very passionate but doesn't seem to care she's just done something amazing.
You guys wanna joke about Pinkie acting worn out after her decorating the castle, but she had to channel a lot of chaos energy to make all those appear out of thin air. She's gonna be sleeping for a week. She'll be ok, though. Pinkie can handle any amount of chaos.

Celestial has always felt like a caring mother figure for Twilight, and it really shows in this episode. The way Twilight reassures her mentor that she’ll always need her is simply sweet and touching.

This reminds me when Discord give Twilight half of a golden medal for being a good friend of his (complete with a mission outside of Equestria to face danger in company of a cuasi-recurrent character).
Celestial Advice did more to make Celestia a character than any other episode so far. I'm amused that apparently Twilight picked up her tendency towards paranoia from her mentor. It's also interesting that apparently it was Celestia's plan to send Twilight to Ponyville for years, but she kept putting it off because she didn't want to let Twilight go. (And hints she had at least an inkling the other bearers were there.)All Bottled Up was a great episode for Trixie and Starlight. Trixie was just so adorable with her excitement when she figured out the teacup transfiguration spell. I'm beginning to think Trixie's true talent really is magic, she's just never bothered to properly learn. Though it may be slanted more towards illusion and flashy performances than Twilight's feats of power. Maybe Trixie had a series of poor teachers and settled for tricks and stagecraft when she thought she never would be better. (Leading to the need to tell all those tall tales to make herself sound great and powerful, which is what she wanted.)

Well remember that Celestia and Luna got the elements of harmony from a tree, and they had the mane six's cutie marks on them, so Celestia probably assumed that Twilight and the other five would be important somehow. (My new headcanon thanks to this episode) Also remember that Celestia has dream visions, we don't know how powerful they are either so they might have also hinted at Twilight and friends being important.
Interesting theory. But there's one little problem with it: from what I remembered, the Elements of Harmony changed to the mane six's cutie marks after Nightmare Moon shattered them and they restored a while later, connecting with mane six as their new wielders. Before that, they were shaped just like some regular gems. And they were in that form when took from the tree by Celestia and Luna.
Indeed, most of the elements did not take their current form until they bonded with the Mane 6. Still, Celestia would have known the names of the elements, and perhaps she saw those traits strongly present in those ponies in Ponyville. Also, the large purple star portion of Twilight's cutie mark WAS present on the Tree of Harmony when Celestia and Luna found it, and the gem that was the element of magic also had that same shape when Celestia and Luna used them. Celestia had to have seen the connection between Twilight and the element of magic when she first saw Twilight's cutie mark, sort of a fulfillment of prophecy. Only question is whether she realized that the others were also destined to be bearers of the other elements.
And let's not forget that Celestia was absent during the incident with Nightmare Moon. This could be because she couldn't bear to face Nightmare Moon again, OR, it could've been because she knew that Twilight and the others had to face her in order to unlock the elements' power. My head canon is that Celestia became unable to use the elements after she abused their power by banishing Nightmare Moon to the moon for 1000 years, because that was not an act of harmony. Perhaps she knew that the elements were the only thing that could save Nightmare Moon, and that Twilight and friends were destined to become the true bearers of the elements. In that case, it makes sense that she stepped aside, because her involvement might have ruined the chances of that happening, and she would've been forced to fight Nightmare Moon once again, this time without the help of the elements to assist her, meaning she probably would have lost the fight this time.
Trixie was unable to perform "real" (as in: physical) magic because she lacked both proper training and "The Spark" from genuine and honest feelings.
Friendship is Magic: She got that missing "extra dot" in her pupils after finding, losing, and regaining her first true best friend.

The official book "Journal of the Two Sisters" tells the story. It basically goes something like this: before Celestia and Luna became Equestria's rulers, it was the unicorns who moved the sun and moon each day. But the amount of magic it took was far too great for ordinary unicorns, who risked losing their magic forever. Realizing they have more power than the average pony, Celestia and Luna relieved the unicorns' burden by raising the sun and moon themselves. And thus they earned their cutie marks together.
Indeed, I highly recommend reading the Journal of the Two Sisters. That book is proper show canon too, btw, as it is referenced directly in the Castle Mane-ia episode. It was listed by title, and some passages from it were quoted word for word directly by Twilight.

What an interestingly fun way to open S7. I'm happy that Celestia's getting more involved in the first episode. Seeing that flashback and more of her relationship with Twilight was lovely. However, I'm still waiting for her very own episode like Luna. It was really nice to see a lot of familiar faces as well. I'm also glad that Trixie is getting more screen time, she's becoming more entertaining every time!

Twilight was utterly broken in her last "fantasy": Since the mixed spell was designed to retrieve something that was "lost in the past" it means Starlight could never come back. The fact that Spike considered necesary to remind Twilight about it not being real says something (he also noticed the same back in "Lesson Zero" [S2E03]).

"A Good Start" is probably quite the understatement! XD Not sure if it is too early to call them the Mane 8 with Trixie... Maybe 9 if Discord gets as much screen time as Starlight got last season. ;)
But you know, I've always thought Unicorn's had varying levels of magic that wouldn't really change, like Twilight was a natural 10, Starlight a natural 12, Lyra a natural 2, and Trixie a natural 4, and that's where it kind of stayed. A teleport spell would need a 6 or more. I suppose with intense training (or other external help like potions or amulets) one could get it higher, but never thought Trixie had it in her. Disappointed that she could only go so far, but she had a knack for smokes and mirrors, and so went with that.
But if this can be done with Trixie, then maybe Sunburst could become quite the Wizard. Or maybe she just couldn't be bothered to take the time to study it all (a drop-out?).
I think different Unicorns have varying levels of spellcasting ability. Some are more naturally gifted than others, and some can become much better with hard training, but some will always be more limited. It seems as though Sunburst worked QUITE hard to become a wizard, and apparently failed (though we haven't seen exactly how he failed). On the other hoof, I get the feeling that Trixie, for one reason or another, just never got in a position where she was able to receive proper training to develop her spellcasting abilities. I think she falls into the category of somewhat gifted, but needing to work hard to train and develop her abilities.

Transfiguration, in the how the word is used to define a class of magic, is just reshaping an object into a different one. Example: turning a human into a stone statue or a glass salt shaker into a porcelain tea cup. You’re not replacing the target with another one or pulling it from nowhere, you’re just changing the shape/form of an object into something completely different.
Technically speaking, Transformation and Transmutation both fall under Transfiguration as well. The only nitpicky details between them being the change generally stays in the same category as the object being changed. Transmutation dealing with minerals and the like (Example: turning lead into gold) while Transformation deals with things like turning animals into different types of animals.

The fact that we are getting more not only Starlight, but also Trixie makes me think they are starting to build a new Mane 6 :D
That thought did occur to me as well. I don't necessarily think they'll replace the Mane 6, but it does seem like they are starting to build some very strong supporting cast members that are breathing some new life into the show. I would love to see some other past secondary characters come back into focus again, because if they rely on Trixie too much, it will get a bit old.
At 13:29 during Twilight's fantasy about Starlight moving to the Changeling hive: the changeling that transformed into Starlight uses magic to conjure a flyswatter to smack other changelings.
So can changelings use the powers of what they transform into? If so, you'd figure one sixth of an army of changelings that had transformed into Twilight Sparkle back in the season two finale should have made quick work out of the mane six.
Spike was insistent on how "unrealistic" the "fantasies" of Twilight were about the behavior of Starlight, Thorax and Ember.
For example: A trickster changedling like that "red bad one" would think of a better way to "trigger" their own kind than resorting to insults and violence.
It was a case of: Twilight thinks that -> A changedling would think that -> a pony like Starlght would think that -> they look like bugs and have stupid names.
It is more recursive than a fractal totem on limbo [Inception]

Well we know from Sombra's return it is canon that Celestia gets prophetic visions of what's coming. My opinion of Trixie may be shaped by the Equsetria Girls one but if this one has those elements of insecurity (She states Starlight is her first friend) then she may be just looking for Validation from her friend who's normally very passionate but doesn't seem to care she's just done something amazing.
You guys wanna joke about Pinkie acting worn out after her decorating the castle, but she had to channel a lot of chaos energy to make all those appear out of thin air. She's gonna be sleeping for a week. She'll be ok, though. Pinkie can handle any amount of chaos.
