      To be fair, you don't really find skis that clean in the UK either🤦‍♂️ , it's just a case of being lucky and right place, right time. I'm constantly looking online and when a skis comes up, I basically jump on it. This was a particularly rare find though as it was his Dad's, so had been in their family all it's life. Thanks for watching man. Do you ride?

    For years I had a 94' 701 (purple hull) and a 96' 1100. Both had several upgrades/mods. The purple hull 701's are the BEST and lightest Raiders. My 701 had a list of mods but all were bolt-on. Block, crank, pistons were stock. My mods increased power to weight ratio and improved handling. The torque was amazing out of the hole and coming out of turns. Aftermarket sponsons planted you in the corners w/o spinouts. My 701 did not win drag races vs newer supercharged 4-strokes but it could out turn, out carve, and pull out of chop better than the floating 3-seater couches. I compared it to a 125cc class 2-stroke dirt bike. Very nimble, quick, and easy to toss around (.400-450 lbs). The 1100 is a bull. Sits low in the water, heavy, and not easy to throw around. Makes a great drag racer on glass. Good to see you showing love for the old skool skis!

      Hey man, that’s awesome to hear about your experience with the 94' 701 and the 96' 1100! The 701 with its mods sounds like a real powerhouse in terms of handling and torque-totally agree, Raiders are such a blast to ride and incredibly nimble.
      The 1100 definitely has its strengths too, especially in a straight line!. It’s great to see the appreciation for the old-school skis and the way they still hold up against modern rides. Thanks for sharing your experiences and for watching and supporting the channel🙌💪

    I have owned Yamaha since they've come out and Yamahas are much more reliable and will run circles around Sea-Doos all day

    • @classicjetskis
      @classicjetskis  ปีที่แล้ว

      I have 8 of these classic ski and can honestly say your statement is not accurate, both my Yams and Seadoos are equally as reliable... if anything the stainless wear ring on this raider had to be changed vs my seadoo plastic equivalent... Bias is fine but its good to recognise when you are biased... I was once like you, but honestly both brands are top draw if you look after them... I would also say the like for like xp vs raider of this period is night and day in seadoos favour, the xp handles way better and if you take the 1100s party piece away, (its speed) its a hard sell... don't get me wrong, I love my raider but again you have to ride all these skis then make a balanced call... Thanks for watching dude

      @@classicjetskis you’ll find when you race your 1100 raider if you haven’t already, your XP will kill it. You’ll walk it easily. And the XP is topping out at about 62 miles an hour maybe a little bit higher if your ski is perfect. Or if you’ve truth and blueprinted your hull. That’s always good for a mile an hour or so.

I put my 1997 Yamaha Wave Raider 1100 triple only because it was the least expensive and closest one to my area I had to replace so many things in it to get it really turn key and I'm still trying to improve it actually decided to clean it up and put it for sale and upgrade to a tandem Ski Set Up, (Yamaha of course) because we cannot ride 2 people on the Wave Raider so it's basically a pretty lawn ornament at this time!

  • @straighttimestirrups
    @straighttimestirrups ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Given the amount of time you’ve had this ski are there any handling quirks you’ve come across and/or any modifications you’d like to address for handling/stability/turning performance?

    • @classicjetskis
      @classicjetskis  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Great question! Ok so the honest answer is...as someone who loves keeping these machines OEM and riding these skis as they came out the factory...I have had to adapt my riding style when riding this raider, to compliment the strength of how this ski turns at speed, particularly into corners around buoys.
      So if you take say my XPDI as an example, I can rocket like a bullet straight into a corner and then when I turn in the ski, it does what I want it to...some would call this 'compliance' whereas with the raider I find I over compensate for the delayed steering by entering the corner much wider and turning in earlier, with an enthusis on sliding the ski into the corner, carrying speed that way.
      Now a lot of people will say the reason the likes of the XPDI is better in the corners is manufactures made PWC’s easier to ride by making them more compliant as the years went on, as a result removing some of the skill of the rider.
      So where it gets interesting is, whilst if I was trying to get around a timed course as fast as I could, I would pick my XPDI, if I was having fun spinning and simply wanting to have fun, then the raider has a great steering behaviour. In my opinion the best quality of the raider is the power and how well it waves jumps, not its cornering.
      I would also add though, to combat peoples comments that PWC’s got easier to ride due to compliant hull design, that my GSX ltd has maintained the fun playful turning characteristics, but when its business time and I want to corner consistently, it’s a much more dialled in ski from stock...
      I can’t comment on what adding XYZ mods would do, but from stock the best way to get the most out of these skis is sliding it into the corner vs. turning with aggressive like you can do on a lot of the Seadoo’s of this time.
      What I have found is the more aggressive you are with the raider, the more it bites back...and boy does it like to throw you off... Thanks for watching and raising such a great question.
