Fantastic ❤ Oh how I miss these times, better television, lovely personalities and entertainment, no bad language, and from a time when Britain was Still a great country and place in which people could grow up and live. Sadly all gone.
I met Dame Hilda at the Theatre Royal in Bury St Edmunds, a town that gets a few mentions on the radio series, which is nice recognition. I think the show i saw was called The Tranters are Coming... I don't recall if they actually arrived!
Abs wonderful, ahead of their time, probably wouldn’t be allowed to do these sketches today, more the pity, days are long gone when we could laugh at innocent fun. This is what the world needs now, laughter! They were brilliant
But yes, it is fabulous, we need more drag on TV for sure! People are going around saying drag is new! It has a deep rooted cultural history, we were reared on this stuff and now some fascists are telling us it’s “dangerous” 😂
there are 2 more TV series to be uploaded, but DO check out the audio stories on this channel which were broadcast on the radio. It has been said, how can two female impersonators work on radio... well, they proved it was possible :)
I have these on DVD but it's so splendid to see them in such great quality on here THANK you, I saw them live at the Fairfield Halls in Croydon back in the day I loved them so much.
Met George and Patrick countless times and always invited back stage, George and his sister Jennifer worked with my best friend, George was lovely, very down to earth, Patrick much prefered an early night to be fresh with idea's for Hinge and Bracket, but George donned a tight t shirt and jeans and headed to a night club, George was in reality the more talkative, outgoing one, total role revearsal. He once told me it was actually very difficult to steer Evadne's tricycle and the soot they fell from Evadne's disasterous chimney sweeping was really powederised rubber!
TY James! So nice to be able to be amused by something when all seems to be going to h**l in a handbasket here in the US. Looking forward to more of the same!😁✌
Thanks awfully for these, I do own all of them, but I can't always find them, I think I've scratched one of them and now my PS3 (how terribly modern of me) has just packed up, so I can't watch them when a cosy vintage moment is required, so Sir James to the rescue, as always. Xx
I have the box set but still great to have it on YT loved the Innuendo and reverse meanings of the chat. Took me a while to understand the postman's name old Stit. Gyles Brandreth wrote many of these ,clever man.
Yes indeed, look out for Joy Tilt, who runs the ladies exercises in the village Hall. Although she does not appear, she is a real person... what a glorious name!
I loved H&B as a kid, but never saw this 1981 series (I think they did a second soon after). I assume it was BBC2? There's something so sweet and wholesome about it. Thank you for sharing! Their outfits remind me so much of my late, stylish Grannie, born in 1909 and sadly left us in 1995. She frequently wore a hat, gloves and a mink stole or, in Winter, a mink coat. She frequently reapplied her red lipstick through the day, and powdered her nose from a glamorous Stratton compact. I miss her!
@glamdolly30 she sounds like a fine lady indeed... you will be delighted to know that there are two more series still to be uploaded, but don't miss the audio stories on this channel which are even more packed with their humour, as not having the visual, mean there are more words! :)
@@JamesSheenOnline Bless you for your very kind and informative reply. Hugely appreciated! I'm very excited that Series 2 is ahead (I know dribs and drabs are available elsewhere here on TH-cam, but I'm a new sub and your high standards greatly appeal to me, so I remain loyal to your channel). I fully agree with your comments re radio drama/comedy/comedy drama. It's a special experience to lay back, relax, and listen to top notch performers, while your minds eye transports you elsewhere, and brings the visuals vividly to life! I'm a former TV producer/celebrity booker - Sometime I must tell you my little story about Hinge & Bracket's guest appearance on 'Barrymore in the 'nineties. Au revoir! X
This is so soothing, gentle and very English. We are good at cross dressing! No judgment or asking for rights just acceptance and appreciation of talent.
Funny how Dame Hilda mentioned Maison Rene, the hairdresser, a hairdresser ALSO mentioned in Victoria Wood sketches... I think it was actually Rene Mason :)
Oh my gosh. I love Brit com. I am a US fan and I am always looking for new comedies to watch. I hope you will be able to post series 2 and 3 of Dear Ladies. I am so enjoying watching this program. Thank you so much for posting these.
I've always wondered who Rupaul's influences were. I was always a huge fan of Hinge & Bracket on the radio and TV. Nice to see them again after all this time. Thank you.
@Russ_Keith well I doubt that Hinge and Bracket influenced Rupaul, as he was in the U.S. at the time and would not have been aware of our quaint ladies. You have to remember that Rupaul is drag, a parody of women, but Hinge and Bracket are in a different class, alongside Dame Edna, which is female impersonation... massive difference... I would guess that Rupauls influence would more likely have been Sophie Tucker and Liberace!
I’d say it’s the other way round: Rupaul tries to pass as a woman (a very glamorous one) and isn’t a comedy act. Whereas drag is done for laughs and isn’t meant to fool anyone it’s actually a woman. Hinge and Bracket fall into the latter category
G'day to you, We managed to see these two Delightful Ladies live when they came Downunder, such Tongue in Cheek fun, nice to see them again! Armadale West Aust.
Absolutely sublime comedy. Note perfect performances, a real double act with call backs to genuine music-hall, old school female impersonaters (never drag act dear, if you dont mind) and even the genteel plays of Wilde and Coward.
@stevetayler9518 absolutely spot on... this is definitely NOT drag... this is high level female impersonation, and I am sure there are many people who have had aunties just like the two dear ladies
@JamesSheenOnline As a child, I always associated them with two (to me elderly) ladies who lived next door to my grandparents. They were known as "The Two Girls". When we visited my grandparents I'd spend hours next door with them, talking incessantly as only shy kids who find someone to be comfortable with can. Wouldn't surprise me I actually told them they reminded me of Hinge & Bracket, 🤣
Oh my goodness!!! You uploaded one my most favorite of telly series next to Are You Being Served, Nearest & Dearest, Fawlty Towers, On The Buses, Coronation Street (only 60's to the 80's Cory), Steptoe, That's My Boy, Father Ted...and all the others we 💕 and so much and for that I grant you 3 wishes (don't tell me what they are though) and I'll make sure to 🙏 my hardest they come true 😙 💘 sincerely though, you're magic for sharing your videos with us 🖤

Those were the days - dinner a deux, a West End show and a mooch round Madame Tussauds for two, and all covered by a mere £16 quid! Oh, and you had a hope of parking your car in the capital then, without taking out a second mortgage.
Check out "You're Only Young Twice" which has 4 leading ladies, and as such a closer parrallel to the Golden Girls th-cam.com/video/c8WTyA7f9-c/w-d-xo.html
The 'dear ladies' Dame Hilda Bracket and her companion Dr Evadne Hinge were played by Patrick Fyffe and George Logan, female impersonators. For those who'll be watching for the first time, did you guess Dame Hilda and Dr Evadne were men?
First time watching.
So glad I found it.

Back when Tv was a joy to watch.
Thank you for these wonderful memories.

There is absolutely no joy on TV anymore.
