I have 2 questions that are completely unrelated to your video. You seem to know a lot about air drying clay and I saw a video you did 2 years ago in which you reviewed the Hearty Clay, which is the brand I use. I am working on a project and I am stuck until I can find the answer to my questions. I'm working on a project, using a set of cutters from Patchwork Cutters. Their cutters are very thin, but I have made my clay figures thicker, about 1/4 inch thick. The cutters are from a pirate set, so I have a ship, a treasure chest, 2 different pirates, some trees, and I might make a bush. I want to make a plaque that could either have magnets put on the back of it or be hung on a wall. I was in a local craft store here in the USA and came across some wood frames covered with white canvas being sold for use with watercolor or acrylic paints. One of the canvases is the perfect size for my project. I would like to roll out some air dry clay in blue (for the sky and water) and in yellow/brown (for the beach/sand). I would cover the entire face of the canvas with that rolled out clay and then glue all the figures onto that clay. (The clay would not go past the edges and down the sides...it would just cover the "painting" surface area. The canvas, as I mentioned, is a white color, and I think it has been treated with a titanium something and whatever they put on canvas to prepare it for paints. My questions are: 1. Are you able to tell me if the Hearty Clay would stick to this particular type of canvas if I glued it on? And if so, 2. What glue should I use? There are so many kinds in the stores that it is very confusing. I don't want to use anything that would create a lump or line under the clay, obviously (and the clay will be rolled out pretty thinly), but I would need something that would hold the clay onto the "treated" canvas. Might you know the answer to my 2 questions, please? Thank you in advance!

A canvas is normally treated with a type of primer called gesso (normally white in colour) So yes the clay would stick to that. What you'll have to remember is that once you've rolled out your clay, it will shrink by about 10%. So roll out a larger area of clay than the size of your canvas. Then once dry, stick it to the canvas with a good wood glue. Gorilla Wood Glue is great,. If you can buy that where you are. Stick the clay and weigh the clay down so that it has good contact with the canvas. Leave to dry before trimming off the excess clay. Job done!
I hope this helps answer both your questions. If you have any more, then I'll be happy to help further. Good luck with your project 😀

Thank you so much!! I had no idea wood glue could be used with air dry clay. Gorilla glue is readily available here. And your reminder to roll the clay out bigger was a great tip as I had not thought about that. I feel confident to finish the project now!! Thank you again!!
