    When you did the close up near the water lilies it looks so real that I was looking for a frog or some little critter. Your work is excellent. Thanks for sharing!

    Stephen, Stephen, Stephen.... you have done such an awesome job on that pond... Honestly I haven't seen anything yet that has that much realism... I'm amazed by the murky waters around the ends of the pond. Wow and the reflection is unbelievable... Great job....

      Thank you Jason. Now to get the bridge back in and run some trains!

    Great update & yes teddy bear fur is used a lot in the UK, but I have never tried it but seen lots of layouts on U tube and it does look good. Also ponds attract kids and you know what kids are like ie. dumping old bikes, shopping carts etc lol

    this is probably one of the most realistic ponds I have ever seen on a layout! It is photorealistic.

    Your pond area is looking fantastic Stephen, put the bridge in and you will realize how great the area has turned out, enjoying your videos as well so of the products you use will help me on my layout, thanks again for your great videos.

    I came to encourage you and say your pond came out great but realized the video was 3 years old! Lol! I guess I have catching up to see how your layout is looking now! I’m new to railroading, not too sure which I should do first. I found Jason Jensen and Luke Town and started making buildings. I’ve got 4 done now but need to work faster. I’m enjoying watching and listening to your videos documenting your work.

      Warren- thank you for the encouraging words! Been away for so long now the itch to get back to working on the layout is really bugging me. But, it still may be awhile before I can get back for any length of time.

  • @jeffsymons6885
    @jeffsymons6885 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hi. Nice update. A technique you may want to experiment with is one some UK modellers are using with teddy bear fur.. After you have trimmed the teddy bear fur to your desired effect, using sharp scissors dye it, then trim further (electric hair clippers are ideal), then take it outside and burn it using a blowtorch, keeping the flame and fur moving all the time. Don't get the flame too close! The fur is flame retardent so it kinda shrivels, giving a fantastic effect :)

    Pond scene is looking great! Some of the shots of the back left from lower down you could mistake for photos!

    It kooks i think it looks realistic to me. It looks great, and if i am able to make a lay out, i hope i could make mine as realistic as that.

  • @daviemaclean61
    @daviemaclean61 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    Another great update. I have never heard of using teddy bear fur either, but even your initial efforts, particularly the middle one, look pretty good. And if you get weery preparing the layout you can always have a little lie down on a field!

  • @williamarseneau1575

    All of the comments about the evidence of humans being present are right on but do not get carried away with it. I also suggest that you pick a spot that looks like it would be good fishing and put a few small rocks in place for a fire ring with a burned area from camping.
    Overall, this area is extremely well done and looks very prototypical. WELL DONE!!!!
    Bill

      Many thanks Bill. And I agree- the addition of details, people, and animals must be balanced and fit the scene.

    Your pond scene is near perfection in scale modeling! The overgrowth/underbrush absolutely immerses the viewer into the scene! Very, very well done! (So the water creep didn't help much on the rocks, but for a first ever attempt, I don't think you can complain much.)

    I am using twigs and wire forms with silflor tree foliage on my O scale layout. I only have a few built. As I am still experimenting with it. so far so they look great. Ill post a photo tomorrow.

    Connect the bridge with rare earth magnets so you can remove it when you need to do
    some work around the area.

  • @onionhat9141

    If this was a diorama and you took this out to do some photoshoots under the sun with it that it would totally trick someone to thinking that’s a real area.

  • @skinny6523
    @skinny6523 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    The light colored fur comes close to looking like wheat in the fall just before harvest. You need some wild life in the pond area, raccoons, dear, water fowl, dogs, bears, or people fishing. Your whole layout is awesome, just needs a little life going on.
    Kevin

    • @robbennett1965
      @robbennett1965 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree- but I want to be careful as a lot of the "animal" figures I see in HO scale do not look very good. Preiser makes some that I do have and may work into the scene.

    my first two videos are me making weeping willow trees ,, not the best quality video ,, but the trees turned out great , I should redo the video I guess ,, anyway ,, the water area is WOW , the color you used on it just looks so real ,, teddy bear effects seems like a lot of work ,, to get it to not look patchy ,, great update ,, summer time ,, so see ya when you get back at it ,,

      it,s funy the videos were when I just started out on you tube , I didn't even know that channels grow and get subscribbers back then ,, but I will say they are my favorite trees and I always have them in my videos ,, they turn out great I think ,

    Excellent work Rob, still enjoying your work. Just a quick thought, have you tried using Testors Matt varnish to dull the rocks in the pond, it may be worth trying as a minor detail.

  • @paulkirkmanMYTRAINS
    @paulkirkmanMYTRAINS 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    You are extremely good at scenery BUT I believe the pond scene doesn't need much more work. I can see adding a little water effects around the culvert but the rest of the pond looks great at where it is now. Just my opinion. I always enjoy your videos.

    Hello ! Your pound surroundings are looking very nice ! Especially when filmed from HO dude eyes' height ! As you said, the nature is messy and you reproduced this messy look well. Thank you also for mentioning those two books that seem to be very interesting. I hope you won't get any trouble with the animals protection orgnisations as I guess you tortured your kitty to do the cat tails in your pound and then kiled tons of teddy bears for your wild grass! Haha. I have seen this technique used also with what the guy was calling "faux furr" and you can achieve great results with this and your trials are promising. I could not use this technique myself as I my scales are N, Z and 1/320 and it is hard to find furr short enough. But you gave me the envy to try to "shave" some furr to try, But I guess and won't achieve the wild effect on such short furr. Anyway, thanks for this nice update and I am looking forwards to seeing what you will achieve with the trees ! :) Cheers !

    just awesome...and your rolling narrative cracks me up! +10000...can you or anyone else advise reL cat tails lilly pads, swamp grass...glue on top of the resin/realistic water once cured...or stick them into wet resin/realistic water while drying???? thanks

  • @cllines604

    the middle one looks like a path with high grass on either side

  • @chazzyb8660
    @chazzyb8660 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    It sort of looks as though there might be a stream (occasional, storm fed) coming down from the rocks in the upper left corner of the pond, which would seem very plausible.
    Also with all that (very nice) foliage, I am not sure where the 'fishermen' are going to be? Still they tend to be very persistent in pursuit of their hobby… And of course there are magnet fisherman too, now.

    It all looks real to me! Maybe add some small ripples to the entire pond area. It looks too flat. Is reflecting to much scenery.

  • @flyingtiger2212
    @flyingtiger2212 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    and of you add after curing/hardening, what kind of adhesive? and any advice on what to use as a temporary dam if the water effect is literally on the edge of the layout and you don't have fascia? styrene? thin piece of wood with wax paper? a piece of glass or mirror vised onto edge? i think Realistic Water does not "stick" after curing???? many you tubers have leakage issues (LoL)...thanks!

    Very nice. You mention that you are not sure you'll keep the JTT Weeping Willow. I suggest you look at scratch-building your own. I did - here's a link:
    themodelrailwayshow.com/cn1950s/?p=4437
    Given that it's in the foreground, you will be happier with your own tree, I'm sure.
