Not sure if it will pan out 5-7 years down the line, but for the athletes we have and are likely to get until things turn around, I think he is a good fit. Should immediately double ppg and will give FSU the chance to take games into the 4th Q.
I like Malzahn as an OC. He puts up points. His 2014 success and prior, came from running players on the field on offense before the defense could adjust. Nick Saban got the NCAA to change that rule allowing the defense to match substitutions, specifically because of Gus, IMO. Still, Malzahn is innovative and will put a lot of pressure on opposing defenses.
I like both hires for OC n DC. And I hear we may get Knighton as well for DL coach so that could be something too! We need the experience a Malzahn brings. He’s won a championship and took a team there, so he knows what it takes n we need that. This previous staff had never had that kind of experience and it tells. So the future should be brighter and I’m here for it!!
I like that we can pull in a head coach to be OC. I'm 100% optimistic he will make the team better but that is a low bar. Can he put together a great offense? I'm cautiously optimistic.
Gus beat Saban as a HC using his offense more than Kirby has or alot of other coaches have so we know he can scheme. We needed this. We needed a guy who has coached in big time games in a power 2 conference. He has the pedigree and is more than capable of running the offense by himself and freeing Mike up to be that “CEO” style HC so he can run the show. This might not be what some people wanted but tbh it’s as good as we could have done, In the moment. Gus knows what a winning SEC offense looks like and we just need guys who either are proven on their side of the ball or can flat out recruit…Preferably both lol
Watching Coach Norvell before the game, my first thought was “We are going to lose this game”. He was not fired up, he looked tired, like the weight of the World was on him. Has anyone seen the sledge hammer? The Work moto & smashing the marble tile after each win. That appears to be his “Stick”, control what you can aka Win all your games, Win the Conference Championship, things will workout. ESPN does lean in on who they want & they wanted the SEC Champion with 1 loss & they Wanted Texas with 1 loss. Coach Norvell seems broken?!? Coach Gus Malzahn is a good hire, he has given up a Head Coach @ UCF job to come be Florida State University’s Offensive Coordinator.

He is the original and even though others do similar offenses- Gus is the original in a way and has recruited well. I think for a lot of coaches they are tired of running a program without help and this will be Norvell’s help. This may be somewhat a trend setting decision. The only negative is when thinking of his offense I would rather pass than run the QB. I am not a fan of running QB offenses. I like a passing game and when I think of FSU I think of shotgun offenses and power running. But we have to be flexible as fans and flex with the times!
Yac is a proven WR coach, He produced multiple 1k yard receivers. Honestly he should have been the WR coach. But he hasn’t recruited bad at the RB position, Our OL just sucks but Yac has hit on his position group.
Bad news is he is 60 years old, and might not relate to recruits....good news is he is 60 years old, and will probably stay at FSU for 5+ years if he is successful.

Age is a number bro. There are plenty of older recruits that relate to recruits. You just have to be willing to put in the work on the trail
