I have been watching TH-cam videos for years. This is my first comment. I had a cracked key fob and I called my nearest Mercedes Benz dealership, and they wanted $287 for a new key!!!! So I found this video and I did exactly what it said and I replaced my key fob and it works PERFECTLY!!!!! I know if I want a 2nd key, I will have to go to the dealership, but if you are looking to replace a broken or cracked key fob, this is the best option. Thank you very much

I opened it up and dried it out gently... with a hair dryer. It started working again. ...Sigh of relief. Cause the local locksmith wanted $275 for a new key and programming. Is there anyway you know of to get a second one to work without paying for programming? I am skittish now without a second working keyfob.
Well ... Unfortunately, the locksmith or the dealer must access the car's computer and MBStar restricts this access to prevent theft. The cost seems high but, Volvo is twice the cost compared to MB because the Volvo key must be registered on Volvo's central computer with VIDA as well as the individual vehicle. So MB cost for a 2nd key seems ridiculous when a 1980's car key is 5 keys for a dollar and a 2020 car's key is $450 each with MB being about half of that. So ... What to do. I bought a used car and coughed up the cost of a 2nd key. You might be in the same boat. For Volvo, and I suspect MB too, the missing key is removed from the computer, again, to prevent theft. GL with you decision.

Update: the problem returned and was fixed this time by placing a small square of electrical tape over the top of the battery where it touches the thin metal strip. Squeezing the fob stopped working
Those people in middle east. Do not do this. The cars shipped to middle east comes with keys that can not be repaired. When damaged, you are forced to buy a new key from Mercedes. It's simply no customer protection in those countries that can force Mercedes to give a rpaire option instead of replacement.
After changing the batteries I was still having problems starting the car. I opened it back up and bent the metal that goes around the batteries inward so that it makes a better connection to the batteries. It started up right away with no problem after that but then it had some problems again. I discovered that pinching the fob so that the batteries make a connection while turning the key is the answer and it starts right away.
David enjoy your mb videos. I have a 2000 s class. When i try to start it, it usually makes one crank, then nothing. Usually starts after 3, or 4 tries. I can't seem to find one that matches. Mine has chrome around the edges, a triangular shaped panic button and one battery. Can you help me? Thank you..Gary
Well ... I don't know that fob design. If you bought the car new then they could be factory but the MY2000 that I helped work on had the same key fob as the one shown. Sorry I was no help.
👍🏼 My ignition key won’t work any more, won’t turn, no longer lock and unlock, no longer activate alarm ect . I had the battery in key replaced and still nothing. Car battery is new. So I did same as you and ordered a new fob key and waiting it’s arrival. Hope mine works like yours did.

Even if you purchase a key outside of the dealership, you still need someone to program the key. I do not know the cost. Could be hundreds. I know a Volvo key and programing is $450. This video makes it look easy but please be careful guys. The chip doesn't really come out as easily as shown in the video. In my case the copper coil unit was sheared off and a transistor was dislocated so it would't start my car. Also, these Chinese made key fobs don't have the same tolerance so be especially careful when you slide the chip back into the new shell. This entire key is just a failed design. One shouldn't have to slide in and out a chip with sensitive components in a tight key fob. It should have been designed in such a way that the chip sits flat on the key fob upon opening like most cars.
Would be good to know which offer from ebay of Amazone is with Mercedes logo. I want to be sure that I am NOT buying unbranded kay and losing money. ;)

I do not know that particular key shape and style. Match the current key fob to the ones displayed. They are all replicas, probably from the same manufacturer, and they are just cheap empty shells. In most cases, you can return it.
I have an original remote and ignition key for a 1999 mercedes c 280. Kompressor. Does this key have value? How were you able to reproduce this fob to work with your car?
That is a good question, thank you for asking. The replacement part is only the outer shell. The part that houses the coded transponder to the car is the part that is moved from the original shell to the new one. Therefore, the new one does not need to be reprogrammed. Feel free to ask more questions.

These are just the empty key fobs which you can buy on Amazon and ebay. Then you switch out the internals. If you need the whole key replaced because you lost one, then you need to go to the dealer. I do not know if a locksmith can handle Mercedes keys.
Not a good idea to squish your PCB with pliers! That little piece under your right thumb at 2' 09" is the 'secret' catch. Get to that with a hook and all is happiness. PS My ebay replacement arrived: I never noticed the lack of emblem! Have to order an Amazon special!.
I have 02 ML 320 start error code , changed burned body control module due to roofleek driped right above the emergency brake on it !!! I bought on ebay same part # A1635457332 and took it to dealer ,payed $184 for programing BCM and still not starting I gave up to pay other $200 to program key or deal with steelership ....anybody has solution below $500 ? Now thinking to buy ECU ,Bcm,key ,tubler and sender of ebay .....did anybody do it ??..... would I be ok without reprograming in steelership tro start the car if all of it is changed from diffrend car ???? Thanks

From what I’ve seen if you want or need a new key you can find someone with a obd2 scan reader that can reprogram your keys.

I discovered that pinching the fob so that the batteries make a connection while turning the key is the answer and it starts right away.

I bought my used CPO but I did not even check with the dealer.

No. This is just an outer case replacement. The internals came from the original key fobs.

Check the batteries. Sometimes just a slight weakness or voltage drop can cause them to act up or not function.
