They have taken it completely out of context. That said, and in all honesty, with trump now in office (can’t believe they voted for that). But if he continues to antagonise other countries, the way he is doing right now. Then quit possibly their people may, express their disapproval and objections! By taking the actions of protesting against America. But definitely not for it.
There may well be protests against Trump and Musk's insanity, but protesting by definition is against something, not for anything apart from justice and action.
That is not entirely correct. Protest by definition means 'public declaration'. The term is derived from the Latin prōtestārī, which is composed of 'pro', meaning "in front of" or "for (something/somebody)", and the root 'testārī', meaning "to testify". In this sense, you can, for example, protest for better working conditions or for higher wages or for the release of hostages, etc.

That doesn't make sense from an observational point of view. 'Who are you protesting for?' I have heard at no point ever the answer being, us. Also Europe, aside from the UK, don't speak English as a first language.
Many Americans have in recent times demonstrated that they struggle to understand what a pronoun even is.
I have an explanation for all of this and the world in general. Social Media wipes out brain cells.
I remember when Joe Biden won the US election in 2020 many US news outlets portrayed people in the UK setting-off fireworks for Guy Fawkes Night as British people celebrating Donald Trump being “deposed”.

No, we are not protesting for the USA. Nobody, nowhere

And I read articles about Germany protesting at Tesla factories due to Musk's yahtzee salute. "Controversial Image Of Elon Musk Displayed On Tesla Factory In Germany"
I wouldn't piss on the USA if it was on fire... they wanted their independence - they got it.... so guess what? Let them get on with it!
It's like in 1984 (the novel, not just the year). 'War is peace. Freedom is slavery. Ignorance is strength,' Everything is named the opposite of what it is actually is. Protests in Europe -> Protests for America, Information Age -> Desinformation Age, etc.
Next week: we’re at war with Eurasia. The week thereafter: we’re allies with Eurasia.
Is it sheer arrogance or simple stupidity?!!! In all honesty, as we are discussing Americans probably both! That they would even imagine, Europeans are protesting for the U.S (United States). When it’s quite clearly just the word us, but in capital letters “US” meaning their collective nation. Protesting is the action of expressing disapproval or objection of something.
We protest for us, not for the US.
So much American confusion might be cleared up if they would just learn how to use capital letters correctly.
@@mischmaZOOO This was crazy informative. A bit nerdy, but I am nerdy too - way too often. Thanks for sharing - I actually learned something today. And yes I also want to bring the example that I protest for higher wages, not against them. 😅

In sweden there is a long standing conflict with tesla from the workers and union and now that Musk is somehow an official without being voted for I suppose we are protesting against the US.
I will say, when Trump visited England during his first term, it did spark huge anti-Trump demonstrations in London. So there is some precedent. But I've not heard of any anti-Trump protests so far in the UK. It's like, you know who you voted for this time. What would we even be protesting?
But that was against, not for
@NormyTres I would argue that, at the moment, a protest against Trump would be a protest for democracy. (Even though millions of idiots voted him in 🙄) That's sort of what I was assuming these misguided Americans were talking about when they said "for us." I might well be wrong on that, of course.
Also, I've seen many protests over the years "for" a free Palestine and "for" a free Tibet. A protest "against" something you don't like is also inherently a protest "for" the change you want to see.
Wait till he visits next.
