Any kind of contraceptives… She would get pregnant, have a baby nurse it until it’s time to be weaned and then handed them off to one of the nurses to raise and she would get pregnant again! My mother lost my father when she was expecting me. They were so madly in love. He was just 27..so I was an only child.i was never lonely because with God's grace my grandma had a surprise pregnancy so 363 days after my birth I got a little "sister"..she was technically my aunt. It was during the war and grandma took care of me while mother worked and so she had 2 babies to care for at age 41. Families are so important. I am now 79 and so hope there is a heaven because everyone is gone but me and my children. I carry my fathers name and look just like him. I did not really understand my mother's totally until I had my children. My mother was so brave just like Ethel, but eleven children and she always smiles..her children are blessed and so was i.
Rory interviewed her mom about her life, I think in the 1990s, and it was very interesting. I believe it’s on TH-cam. Rory saved her mom’s mental health.

She was a cute baby. I saw this when it aired on 60 minutes in 1968. I was 12 years old. Those children were so young and she is so gentle and loving with them. Ted is as well. And Joan in the short footage she was in.
I remember it as well. I also remember the pajamas I had on and where I sat watching it. I can bring it back like it was yesterday. I was also 12 at the time. The tenderness and love she showed and patience is touching and almost brought me to tears with the Christmas music in the background. She is amazing and strong and would have made a fabulous first lady.

She sent the oldest children away , after her husband's murder . David died of a drug overdoes in 1984 .
