great videos , working with pianos (the woodworking), whenever we need high-grit sandpaper and don't have any handy; we use paper bags - I've heard it said that a paper bag is 1000-3000 grit sandpaper... it's amazing how a little moisture on a grocery bag or school lunch bag can help smoth a poly-finish or shellac finish , nice to see that technique in silver-smithing thanks
Great video mate 👏 Very informative! I am currently getting ready to pour my own silver bars myself out of intrest & really enjoyed your video mate, keep up the good work 👍
Great video, very informative...always been fascinated by this process. May I ask what kind of silver are you melting? (From scraps/raw/coins..)....I hope I didn’t miss it in the video
Hi, I want to ask. I also melt silver into bars, but the graphite crucible doesn't last long. After only a short melting, it crumbles. Do you use borax? I have a small electric furnace. Thank you :)
I'm sorry buddy, keep trying and experimenting with different set ups. Change any variable you can think of. Are you using 999 silver? You won't get ripples with anything less.
@@BackyardBullion no worries. I’ll eventually figure it out. It’s Sterling that I refined. So it’s either pure or close to but I’ll try with 100% pure see if that’s it. Thank u for the advice. Love the videos
I do that but during the melting process you lose silver. I noticed a layer of dust on the work bench, swept it up and melted it. It weighed quite a bit. It's hard to judge how much over weight you have to make it before melting. Sometimes I end up under weight and have to remelt
Joe from California here, for evening out the silver bar, sand in a figure eight motion. The motion automatically sands all the angles.
Good stuff...I enjoy metal work

Just caught the end of the live stream, will have to watch it back . Love watching you work 👍
Great video! I’d like to see how you will antique that bar too!
🔥🦈🌊

Great work
What other methods could you use to stamp the bars when they are finished? Stamping with a hammer seems pretty error prone.
That was so cool to watch. Beautiful bars
Enjoyed this video. Really nice to see what happens to go into your beautiful bars. Hoping to have a go one day.
Thanks for sharing what happens behind the scenes.
No worries!

Awesome video, love the behind the scenes videos a lot
Glad you enjoyed
I'm going to need you to send me some poured silver bullion...my favorite!!
Nice
Thx for the video and tips for pouring, looking at doing a little bit of it ourselves going to buy shot to help keep the cost down 👍
You make quality look so easy when thats not easy id love a 100gram Ingot bar they're so beautiful and hand poured stamped fantastic thanks top fun 😀.
Thanks for the great tips !!
No problem!
This video will be valuable when I start my pouring journey... Hopefully in the fall!
Another great informative video! Thanks for the peeks behind the scenes.
Thanks for watching!
I have a few kg of silver on thinking of making into smaller custom bars.
How many mm is the large stamp?
Dang missed it great video as always brother keep them coming
Great video and great tips thanks
Thanks for watching!
How do you hit it that hard without bending/warping the bar?
Magic!
How big is that stamp?
I hate how silver is lost from sanding. Can you burn the sandpaper eventually to recover the silver?
Dose the burner burn through the mould or do you have to be Careful with graphite as I've not poured silver before
Great video, as always! are you just doing commissions? or will there be bars available on your website?
I do commissions and later in the year some will be available on my website
Practice makes permanent*
Where can i get the stamps
I have mine made by this company: www.mshaw.co.uk/
OK thank you
At what temperature are you pouring?
1050 degrees Celsius

Yep, it's part of the process, graphite crucibles degrade over time, I manage about 8x 90 minute cycles out of mine then I have to buy new ones.
Where can I get a stamp made to press into silver please
If you are in the UK www.mshaw.co.uk/
Looks like adding silver shot to a mold to get the weight right, and them melting it in the mold would be the way to go.
Yes, but you need to have the right equipment to do this, I dont
Can anyone tell me if a 1Ton Arbor Press will exert enough pressure to imprint into a .999 fine silver bar?
More than enough!
👍
For some reason I can not get the ripple effect in any bar I make. Doesn’t matter what I do just doesn’t work
You need the magic touch! Do you use a blowtorch and graphite mold?
@@BackyardBullion yes I do. But just won’t work for me. Ur video I just watched made it look super easy 😁
Jealous a little bit

Yeah, unless it's 999 it won't ripple property.
Hi
Where is the best place to buy silver in the UK ?
www.thesilverforum.com
@@BackyardBullion I went on the website. Its everything legit ?
Yes, it's the best place to buy and sell by far
What type silver are you melting? Aren’t you devaluating the price of silver by turning into a bar?
why does it look like there is blue flake in the bar? Just the lighting??
Those are crystalline structures of the cooled silver. It happens when the air temperature is very cold
@@BackyardBullion I thought you do this in your kitchen... How cold is it?? 🙃
I do, it doesn't have to be that cold, 15-16 degrees sometimes does it. If I do an early morning pour in the winter it could be very cold!
@@BackyardBullion interesting. I'll have to try that. Looks cool 👍🏻
Why can't you just weigh the silver before you melt it, so you just pour the full cup?
I do that but during the melting process you lose silver. I noticed a layer of dust on the work bench, swept it up and melted it. It weighed quite a bit. It's hard to judge how much over weight you have to make it before melting. Sometimes I end up under weight and have to remelt
@Mike G lol, this comment was a while ago and I've done some melting myself since then. So, i understand why now. 🤣🤣🤣 Thank you for the reply though.
First
Vinegar is diluted acetic acid lol very very diluted
