Between the years 1915 and 1925, he was the best-known English-speaking humorist in the world. He is known for his light humour along with criticisms of people's follies.He was awarded the Mark Twain Medal for humour, the Royal Society of Canada's Lorne Pierce Medal and the Governor General's Literary Award for non-fiction.Stephen Butler Leacock died 28 March 1944 at Toronto from throat cancer and was buried, across the lake from Old Brewery Bay, in the Leacock family plot at St. George's Church, Sibbald Point.
