As a Black Hippy/TDE fan since 09 Reason was one of the few artists on the label I never connected with when it came to his music. Then over the years he’s made some head scratching comments that had me wanting him off the label anyway

Imo if he would've came during the Black Hippie Era of TDE he'd fit right in. I think if he even came with SZA and Isiah he'd fit better, but where the music is at now it was the wrong timing imo

Reason can rap I’m not going to say he’s wack but his music never did it for me.
@@dafreako95honestly you may be right because I just went back and skimmed through his most recent album and it sounds like it’s a good album but I just stopped caring about Reason. H&C and Blankface hit for me. Control System hit for me. KL EP, OD, S.80 etc hit for me. Cilvia Demo, THIB hit for me. The other rappers on TDE hooked me in with their early work that hits on a certain level to me. Reason isn’t necessarily wack but the connection is lost with me.

Reason can make good music all day, but if it aint GREAT or if it doesnt resonate with the people, thats on him.....not the label. Reason just hasn't made a song that is loved by a wider audience. Alot of times his music sounds as if he is just rapping because he can, but not writing music with a purpose. For his style, he needs to be saying more that people can connect with. The proof is in the music

Good take. Dude is actually a good rapper, but there's no urgency or excitement to his music. I listened to two of his projects, solely because he was on TDE, and it was a chore. No replay value. He's very generic. With that said, he can still carve out a niche lane for himself independently. Reason's not a star, and signing with Dreamville/Interscope sounds good, but he'll likely fail there too. Needs to go indy, find a dope producer, push out mixtapes, and build a following like Griselda, who also don't sell any records, but they eat off merch and small venue tours. That's Reason's lane, if he's being honest with himself.
Reason going to a different label means nothing if he’s not selling records. He had a good album in 2020 but clearly couldn’t go on tour. He ruined his own rollout last year going back n forth with Moosa on T Rell show. So the family don’t want him around anymore.
Now maybe Top can focus on Q, Rock, Soul, SZA, Zay, SiR & Ray Vaughn
Zacari and Doechii both on TDE too

And Ab hasn’t had the looks the others have in the last decade I knew Herbert wasn’t going to be a huge album but it’s a very good album and I think has Soul heading back in the right direction. Just wish they would’ve done more promotion for it

Isaiah Rashad admitted that he had a sobriety issue...had nothing to do with TDE. And after he cleaned himself up, he dropped an incredible album with THIB.

@@morell1185 No not really both of them have multiple platinum certifications from being on Dreamville collab album, both only have two albums, and unfortunately both haven’t gotten more known recognition either due to label issues (Cozz spoke on it during Dreamville Fest, that he couldn’t release music due to other label contracts)

I am not a reason fan he is cool, but in 2018 when he was signed to TDE I was like that was a dumb move by top dawg lol, Top Dawg had so much talent why not just focus on them and wait until it died down and sign someone else and plus TDE fans never liked Reason from jump so it was just a mistake and it remind me of when Wale signed to MMG but the big difference is Wale made it work, where as Reason just wasn't connecting and people didn't like him anyways.

If we being honest TDE is a terrible label when it comes to managing artist's. There's a reason kendrick left an every artist's over there has a 5 ton10 years gap when it comes to releasing each project.

Doesn’t matter if you make good music if you can’t or want adapt to the labels culture. One of the things that made Black Hippy successful is they were a brotherhood. TDE is a family base company everyone will not fit in, also Reason did not come of as loyal at times.
I love reason he’s a very nice guy. I had the pleasure of meeting him. I just think that he’s very opinionated and people can’t take that he’s gonna speak his truth regardless and he’s not gonna kiss nobody’s ass, which sometimes gets him in trouble, but I rather him be himself then be ass kisser.

I was always very hesitant to listen to new TDE artist over the years. After the main group of Black Hippy, Isaiah and SZA were established.
I remember always seeing Reason name and just thinking, nope yall not forcing this lame artist on me just because he's TDE lol. Then I first heard that song he did with AB-Soul back then and I mainly only listened because Soul wasn't dropping much back then. But ever since I really appreciate his music a lot.
It's helped me get out my mindstate and give more artist an easier chance to listen to. Which is how I became a fan of Ray Vaughn music, quicker than I normally would. I rock with everyone that's been on TDE. Only person you can't convince me on is Zacari, that's not my vibe or wave at all.

Reason got signed at the wrong time. Never had a chance because Dot was peaking and SZA got the rest of the focus. He stuck it out as long as he could. Trapped in and Flick it up coulda been huge but they hadn't pushed Soul enough, domino effect
