    I never even knew there was tension between the two. I guess that's a testament to their acting abilities. From most of the scenes you could feel the camaraderie between Jeri and Kate.

      Well, not everyone has the same level of intuition, insight and or observational skills. I could tell instantly watching it. Then it was made public. What was not mentioned here from Jeri, is she would go back to her trailer in tears and would be sick to her stomach from the cold harsh reactions Kate would spew in her direction. I get there are people that are not going to get along with one another, but when you work that close with someone and have to be interacting with them on a regular basis, it is beyond un-acceptable to hold onto it and not try and let it go. Don't have to like someone or even respect someone to be polite. Rudeness is just immature. Countless times have I been in similar situations. Burying the hatchet is the only way to move forward. Sometimes, that means getting the hostilities out and then moving on. People think they are doing others a favor by trying to hide their true feelings. But snide remarks, dirty looks and flat out back stabbing is not hiding anything.

    I *heart* Garrett. He made me cry, cos I feel the same way about the Voyager family. It's my fav Trek show, and now, so many years later, it would be wonderful to see all the cast acknowledge the past difficulties, but move past them if it's possible. Bless you, Garrett! You keep on trying to get them together, hon. Love from a J/Cer in Wales, UK xx

      I tried following her on Twitter. Huge mistake. So many inane/dull tweets about food and cutsie stuff. Blegh. I should have known, though, since she's a huge cooking fanatic (and she's married to a French chef).

      And Jeri is not German but her dad is Austrian as far as I can tell, which ruled over a large part of Eastern Europe (but Jeri looks painfully, quintessentially Germanic actually in comparison to most typical E. Europe women, much like Mulgrew looks aggressively Irish/ancient Brit and Wang a Southern Chinese out of central casting).

    I agree with Jeri Ryan, the show putting Seven of Nine in a relationship with Chakotay was a glaring mistake. Seven of Nine and Chakotay's relationship was forced and NOT believeable as a way to end their characters Most of us clearly saw that Seven of Nine should HAVE been with The Doctor. They had one of the best relationships of the entire show.

      @@NancyAllensToiletSeat December 4, 2021 - Like you after hearing this, I too probably would not have wanted to finish the series either. I think you should finish the series because it shows what grit and fortitude Jeri had to work with Kate knowing she did not like her and STILL give a great performance, in all the scenes they had together. It took years but Kate finally did apologize to Jeri for how she treated her on set. I think it was in 2019 and again in 2020 during the zoom #StarTrekVoyager reunion. Kate admitted to having personal problems with her son at home and took her anger out on Jeri once she got on set.
      As for the Seven of Nine and Chakotay coupling during the last season that was a disappointing let down. I think all Jeri Ryan fans are just happy to see a new evolved kick-ass Seven of Nine on #StarTrekPicard

    • @winterhug4331
      @winterhug4331 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Yes Jeri did say she would not do Seven of Nine again. In 2014 whenever this DragonCon took place she probably did feel there was no more 7 story to be told and she did not want to wear the catsuit again.. Fast forward to 2019, Picard come to her with a great script and Jeri reads that she no longer has to wear the catsuit - "Yes, I will become 7 again".

    "Life is like a box of chocolates."
    "We're gonna need a bigger boat."
    "One morning I shot an elephant in my pajamas. How he got into my pajamas I'll never know."
    Staring Captain Kathryn Janeway (portrayed by Garret Wang)
    AND Captain Jean Luc Picard (portrayed by Brent Spinner)

      Television has messages. Just not as varied and provocative as the ones that Star Trek covered.
      But yeah, I understand. A lot of TV now is bland and superficial. Just look at all the dumb reality shows on the air.
      Eh, what can ya do. Ultimately, at its core, TV and movies are just meant as mindless entertainment to kill time and provide distraction from our daily lives. It's a bonus when shows and movies cover issues, etc that get the brain juices flowing.

    I can sympathize with how Wang felt about the Mulgrew-Ryan rivalry/feud. I mean, everyone can see the camaraderie among the TNG cast (it really is so endearing to watch), and if I was an actor, I would want that kind of friendship and family atmosphere with my own cast ensemble. It wasn't Ryan's fault that she landed the role of Seven and that the writers wanted to develop her character at the expense of others. I lost a bit of respect for Mulgrew when I learned about her unprofessionalism towards Ryan on set -- she was such a terrific actress on the show and to learn about this dark side of hers really disappointed me....

      From what I glean from the panel and re-watching the video. Jeri Ryan wasn't welcomed with open arms by Kate Mulgrew. The ill will lasted until the end of the show and only during a recent conversation between Wang and Mulgrew did she tell him that she regrets how she regarded Ryan. I don't know the level of animosity between the two. Garrett has been trying to smooth things between them but I don't know if he'd been trying since the beginning or after the show ended. Please don't quote me on any of this. Only a guess.

    Fasciniating interview. I had read elsewhere that Kate Mulgrew and Jeri Ryan did not get along because of the focus on Ryan, but this is the first time (at 52 min) I have ever heard her talking about it. As people who follow this series know, as the newer versions of the show came out, they started adding some former models - like Jeri Ryan, or Jolene Blalock, or Zoe Saldana. They all drew attention to the show, but probably Ryan was the biggest draw of all and impacted the captain who was also a woman.

    I watched this video purposely after I had watched an interview with Kate Mulgrew.
    When asked if there were fellow actors in Voyager that she liked or didn't like, Kate answered very democratically, basically saying there were some that became close friends and some that didn't. She named a few that she considered her friends, and Garrett Wang was NOT one of them, and neither was Jeri Ryan. But it was to me what she DIDN'T say that said it all--she very clearly inferred that she was NOT a fan of these two AT ALL.
    So, as I see it, there were two reasons there were tensions on the set: first, what I wrote above; and second, simple cattiness--in other words, she was the focus, being the Captain, and here comes a younger, sexier woman who immediately takes that focus away from her. It's very true: when Eve took the fruit from Adam in the Garden, one of her punishments from God was "your desire shall be for your husband"--and ever since, women have looked upon one another in judgement, jealously wanting to hold on to their territory (and their men), thinking that every other woman is after HER place (and HER man. Most women won't admit this, but deep down every woman has this feeling to one extent or another, and she spends much of her life feeling this and trying her best to move on--and before you label me a male chauvinist pig, I happen to be female, thank you, so I know from whence I speak. I've spoken to many women over the years, and all of them have said this in one way or another)
    Simply put: Kate Mulgrew felt that Jeri Ryan was invading her territory, but being the professional she was/is, she didn't let it show on the screen--but whenever the camera wasn't rolling, out came the claws.
    PS--Jennifer Lien was less of a threat to Kate Mulgrew, for the simple reason that Kes was NOT marketed as a sex symbol--and Seven of Nine in her catsuit WAS.

      (i liked kes)
      not the first or last time this sort of thing happened..
      but goodness i thought they were great! enjoyed both their and the others performances hugely 🙂
      at the beginning when seven was first on board the ship, but still dressed as a Borg.. brilliant..
      and their relationship developed, i liked it..

During a transporter malfunction, the doctor's mobile emitter is infected with 7's nano probes and creates a new type of Borg drone. The drone commits suicide at the end of the episode to prevent the Borg Collective from acquiring the advanced technology that the mobile emitter gave this drone.

    Thank you Jeri Ryan aka seven of nine for saving the failing series star trek voyager. Its a shame Kate mulgrew isn't appreciative of that fact and how she had a job for another four years. And I'm sure she threaten to quit the show many times but with the large checks she was receiving she should've thought twice about mistreating you..an innocent bystander..yet you are the reason why star trek voyager will forever be famous..not because of the first female captain but because of a borg drone trying to understand what it is to be human..exploring humanity...what we as humans have gotten away from...I hope u are happy in whatever u do...

    I love Kate but Seven was a lot more than a walking pair of tits. She was a great character and Jeri did a wonderful job. It seems like Kate may have had a bit of room to grow as a person back then. Maybe Paramount wanted a bombshell to boost ratings, but that wasn't Jeri's fault, and she, along with the writers, definitely turned the role into something much more.

  • @jackiecory1831

    I can't stand Kate Mulgrew and I am sorry I ever read anything about her and Do not agree with any of her ideas. I can see why she would be pissed off at Jeri Ryan who brought her looks and her acting ability along with plenty of personality to Voyager as I found out when I started watching these last 4 seasons. As Captain Janeway it was good to finally see a female in the series but I would have cast someone else instead. I liked Garrett Wang's Harry Kim character also.

  • @doctari1061
    @doctari1061 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Voyager would have been better if they just replaced Kate Mulgrew with Jeri Ryan because Mulgrew is a shitty actress compared to Jeri Ryan. They should have focused on 7 of 9 character from episode 1 and killed off Janeway for constantly repeating mistakes and never plugging repeated security holes. Kate Mulgrew sucked as an actress. Not even close to Jeri Ryan in acting skills.
