You did a great job. A real pro with the timing on the start of your activation. I will be attempting my first POTA activation soon so thanks for sharing your experience with us! It was very helpful.

Wow....what a nice "elmer" ham radio video. Great to see hams helping each other and supporting new hams to get active in this amazing hobby. The ham world needs more of this.......

It is great that POTA is keeping Ham Radio vibrant and also keeping CW going! 73 de VK2AOE = George.

This video is so awesome! Thomas is an Elmer level 5000 in my book. Brooks also looks like a pro. If I didn't see the first part of the video, I wouldn't know it was his first activation. Great job guys!

Brooks - You did an amazing job on your first activation, and your enthusiasm will spread to those who worked you or watched you on video. You also have an awesome POTA Elmer who is far too modest to recognize how many times his videos inspire and mentor his viewers! I wish you the best with your new passion, and hope to work you in a park someday!
Thomas - Thanks for this video. You are a wonderful ambassador for POTA and for Amateur radio.
    Best 73 de Brian - K3ES

Oh my gosh. This explains so much. Got my general a month ago and have put some time in but these sorts of exchanges have had me scratching my head. Thankfully 100% of the folks I’ve talked to have been patient! I’ve also been hearing QSL as QSO which was obviously confusing.

Thank you so much for this and all your other videos. I just passed my Technician test last night and am studying for general so I can call POTA as well. You’ve given good lessons on your videos. Both in SSN and CW. 73.

Great job Brooks! And great job teaching Thomas!
It was so nice having someone there to coach me and ask questions on my first POTA. When the POTA bites, the sting lasts forever.

First activation? He’s a natural, or Thomas is the best POTA ELMER ever. It sounds like he has paid close attention to the activators during his hunting expeditions.

Awesome video Thomas and great job Brooks! On Thomas's recommendation I ended up up with a 705 also a few months ago. I got the same antenna and boy it works really well with this radio. One awesome thing about this radio is how easy it is to set up for FT8. Have a small Rasberry Pi that I use until I get my CW down. The antenna, radio and Pi makes activation almost too easy. Going QRP as a new POTA activator to me takes away the possibility of a pileup away which I know could be a little overwhelming.

KA6TVX great activation I was out yesterday for “Support Your Parks”. I work qrp 5 watts cq and 10 ssb using IC-705 and hamsticks on car. Also sometimes hike to parks with same radio and Wolf River Come I’ll antennas. Love the challenge of low power but can take patience and perseverance to make contacts. If I can help you in any way let me know.

Good job brooks! If you’re leaning towards ssb mainly I’d pick the 7300 but if you’re coming to the dark side of Cw , the 705 is awesome. During cme’s and geo mag storms, it’s nice to get 40w out for ssb. But hey man! Bring the paddles and enjoy the code cadence. 73 and congrats 🎉 hope to see you on the spots.

its easy isn't ... Not !! I could see your hand shaking Brook ... Great Job you handled the pile up like a pro. Seems funny watching a K4SWL video and I'm not struggling to keep up with the CW 🤣 Good Job Thomas - we need to have a few more like yourself who are willing to help and have patience . top job.
I'll add KO4QCC to the list and see if I can hear you this side of the pond😎😎😎

    Hi Thomas, greetings form UK!
Great video. Watched a while back during my daily commute and found it extremely useful and since then revisited it again as a reference on me preparing for my first POTA activation.
You know Thomas a suggestion for a video on the same subject would be to make one covering CW. That would be very useful for those like me learning morse code. In case you have one already and I missed it could you provide a link for it.
    Thanks
