He said it in an interview, he didn't know jack about cars lol. He described the gearshift as "suddenly shifting down into drive" when no Chrysler products in 1958 had a gear lever. He also called the transmission "hydramatic" when it was clearly torqueflite lol.
I mean, if he was going to use a real car for the book, à little research between the time he's starting the story and the time it hit bookshelves isn't too ridiculous à thing to have hoped for lol.
We all know what happens when Christine is restored. Two things happens: 1. All the sh!tters of the world get killed. 2. The driver deletes themselves in her. "I remembered a guy who used to have a car like that. F_cking crazy b_stard did himself in his car. He was a MEAN S.O.B! You could pour boiling hot water down his throat and he'd p_ss ice cubes!"
5,000 of these cars were produced that year. every single one of them was buckskin beige with gold trim. If you see one not in that combination, it was redone. not a single one left the factory different. not even custom orders
Dont just "restore" her: Build her into an absolute ProTouring/restomod. Gen3 Demon Hemi driveline, sitting on a Benz-Charger LX frame, so she's modern Mopar for parts availability to maintain. Full integration of the original dash to conceal all the electronics. My point? The result is a daily driver that can perform stunts from the film at will😮 Imagine seeing her hoon-drifting a corner with a HEMI voice😈🤘🏁
That's actually partly because of the movie funnily enough. During the move there was a casting call for 58' Plymouth Fury's all across California, the production bought hundreds off of people, most were wrecked on the shoot and made an already rare car unheard of on the west coast.
@@seanthenerd08That’s not true at all. Multiple sources (people who worked on the movie) have stated they used around 20-24 cars for the movie, not hundreds.
It is possible to rebuild this car from scratch. You would need some automotive craftsman with really good qualifications, somebody that does this professionally. It's possible. I reckon I've seen worse being brought back to life. Even burnt out cars. Panels and lots of other parts would need to be handmade. Good luck. I hope you succeed and I can't wait to see this old girl rolling around again 👌👍🔥
Steven King may not have Known about cars ??? Check this out ... John Carpenter was offered A beautiful fully restored showroom condition Red and white 58 Plymouth fury for free as a gift from the crew for The 1983 film Christine , but he turned them down and said no thanks. 😮😢
Idk if it’s an issue with these fury’s but a lot of older chrysler, dodge, Plymouth cars have issues with finding parts hopefully you don’t with this one
What a waste of a once beautiful car I swear if I lived during the era that car was new and I bought one I would have taken great care of such a car damn shame I've seen more abandoned cars on TH-cam I mean if people want lawn ornaments then put actual stone ornaments in the yard not wasted cars there's just no excuse
Original Christian was 1956 satellite in the pilot series Stephen King didn't want the belvedere to be Christian cause the book it wrote Christian was a school teacher drive 1956 satellite name Kristin named after her daughter in the motion picture movie they took 1957 Plymouth fury from junk yard in Maine where Stephen King lived but director decided used 1956 Plymouth fury from a junk yard in Maine and other Plymouth fury from Vermont cause in 1950s Plymouth fury with 318 v8 engine northeast state from New York long Island Rhode Island Vermont etc highway state police used all the Plymouth fury when belvedere satellite actually built on the Plymouth fury frame
What are you going on about? The friggin book by Stephen King is called CHRISTINE, not Christian and not Kristin. And it absolutely is a 1958 in the book
You have to say "SHOW ME".
then it just restores itself.
Well first you gotta love her. Very very important step

RESCUING CHRISTINE
Just say "show me" and see what gets fixed by itself lol.
Steven King must not have been much of a car guy. In his book, he described a 4 door Plymouth Fury. In 1958 the Fury's were 2 doors.
He said it in an interview, he didn't know jack about cars lol. He described the gearshift as "suddenly shifting down into drive" when no Chrysler products in 1958 had a gear lever. He also called the transmission "hydramatic" when it was clearly torqueflite lol.
@@smellsuperb1That is interesting.
I suppose it could have a manual with three on the column if it were a Plaza or Savoy.
@@auteurfiddler8706that's true, but in the book he says "suddenly shifts into drive".
He was just totally clueless.

@@slowpoke96Z28 This is WAY before the internet, so he'd have to go to a library and hope they have something that helps him.

That’s one HELL of car, no pun intended…
"Christine" book by Stephen king himself, nice reference
I will buy it from you if it a 1958
just push her around a bit to get her odometer to roll back, then just go out cruising until she fixes herself
New update in the long drive looks wonderful
As a child of the 50s,I did not see too many too many of these after 1964 !
According to 1958 sales figures, these cars were not big sellers
"That's a piece of shit, Arnie."
I'd love to buy a Christine. Unfortunately there isn't any i could find and especially none on the West Coast.
