Hi David. I like very much your down to earth approach that you present your videos. I love your work . Thank you for your interesting videos. Jose from Australia
Thank you David!! Great content. Will be watching everything!!! I studied in Florence and they instructed us to not allow the white chalk to touch the charcoal as they said this would create an undesirable grey. I'm now convinced that this restriction is limiting. Thank you for that!!!
Thanks, David! Taking four workshops with you and two with Shana certainly brought back memories. I now ( five years retired) live on a hundred-acre farm with Monet gardens everywhere, so I have been doing impressionist painting. After watching this video, you will pull out your drawing set and work on a portrait. Wayne Burt, Canada.
Un petit bonjour de France, je viens de suivre votre vidéo qui est très instructif, cela nous permet de progresser j'espère suivre un jour un de vos cours si un jour vous venez en France.
David thankyou for the time and detail in making this tutorial. I've learnt so much from watching this! My pan pastel is ordered and I'm ready to play with it. More of this content please 🙏
Thank you so much! I last saw you at the Summit Art Sapace years ago! You critiqued one of my paintings. I sketched along with you just now, I love your calm and clear way of explaining what you are doing. Will tune in again soon. Carol
Many thanks David - great tutorial - showing your use of pan pastel - a medium I am just learning how to use - so grateful for your putting up these demo/learning videos here on TH-cam. I look forward to more of your videos.
Yes! Especially when the studio is ready, I'll be doing more traditional medium demos, like alla prima and just vids on what I'm working on at the moment.
I just love you David !! Thanks for doing this... looking forward to seeing your studio finished and also everything else you post !!..love your tattoo ...what does it mean ?
I don't know if you still want to answer questions but could you say what you use to fix the drawing once you're finished. I have a problem with whites during fixing - they get washed away. Great fan of your work and your subject matter.👍
Awesome demo, man! I’ve been following your work since Drawing a Life came out. One question: is there a specific color you use for the paper? Edit: I saw at the end you said Felt Gray, thanks!
Unlike the art school instruction where the students are taught to sharpen their charcoal tools with a knife and sandpaper to achieve a long, extended point, you use a simple,, store bought sharpener. What convinced you to abandon the established method of sharpening or even to reject vine, or Nitram charcoals?

Found this! Yes, after I left comment on another one of your videos where you used an iPad. Thanks for this video where you use traditional materials.
You are so kind to share your knowledge and experience. Wow!!

I don’t use fixative, we cover that in the video :)
Do you paint over your drawing?
Ill get a good photo and print the drawing to size and transfer the drawing.
Where to see your current life drawings ,if any .?

Hi from Netherlands
the pan pastel tip just desintegrate after 4 hours of use, is that normal?
I would try a softer touch, its definitely something to get used to.
There is a art to using sharpeners. Experience (& disappointments ).
12 minutes in!!!??? Christ, I quit….😂
lol sorry
I make my own (design) application tool(s).
No sound
