Very interesting track set up! The old gp38-2s were the best locos ever built cause they could do anything needed! Nice horn on the NS too! 👍👍👍👍👍👍

the poz from oz thanks man! I agree it’s very different down there, only place I’ve seen a double set up of diamonds like that before, agreed on the GP38-2 and the horn! That was a huge consist of tanks coming back each way on SC-02 but the 2647 had it handled!

How often do these trains run? I might take a shot at it since I'm trying to catch more locals due to interesting power and breaking from the mainline freight traffic that can get boring overtime.

I have a question why is it that they always put some kind of different car in front of a whole bunch of tank cars is it is a cushion in case if something happens so they don't hit the locomotives

For safety's sake. The engine uses large diesel motors to power the traction motors above the wheel sets. The fire/combustion in the diesel engines or the electric current in the traction motors are best separated from tank cars that carry flammable liquids or gasses. Not all tanker cars carry flammables, in which case the spacer car (usually a boxcar) is not necessary. Hope this helps.

As you point out, this yard was originally tied to the Sunoco Marcus Hook refinery - which predates any part of what is now Norfolk Southerm. (In fact, it goes back to the Pennsylvania Railroad - as do over half the yards in Delaware County - those that don't belonged to the Reading Railroad.) Stony Creek Yard is in the western part of Marcus Hook - as the PECO high tension lines indicate; however, they cross over to the eastern side as well further down - because some old refinery operations did; the refinery itself used BOTH sides of what is now Interstate 95 - and was originally US 13 - which connects Wilmington, Marcus Hook, Chester, and Philadelphia (in Marcus Hook, it is 10th Street). I have relatives that live here - that go back to the Sunoco refinery days - which itself predates World War 1. (Consider this odd fact - the refinery closed less than a decade ago.)

The second crossing on Penn Avenue never used to have signals...it has crossbucks. Those new signals were installed only a couple years ago.

Great crew down there! I used to get rail cars spotted at the certainteed building (old Ford factory) they would let me ride on the locomotive!

3295 is FLAMMABLE LIQUID HYDROCARBONS in some of the tanks than the ones with the 1075 placards are liquid petroleum
