If so, what will happen if the power goes down at night while a heavy load, such as an air conditioner, is turned on?
I believe minimum capacity for available hybrid model is 3KW. Won't payback for small to medium homes. Always pay attention to KSEB bills, amount of Rs 1~2K under residential tariff don't need any kind of ongrid/offgrid/hybrid systems. Because the amount invested needs longer time for payback.
