    Back when I did a few yards by myself, I bought the Exmark Commercial 30. I was using the Honda HRC216K3HXA prior - it's the Cadillac of commercial 21's. I hated to get rid of it but going to a 30" (either the Commercial 30 or the Toro Turfmaster) made more sense to me productivity wise. So in 2016 I bit the bullet and bought the Commercial 30 and sold the Honda to a landscaper friend. I've always mowed with 21" self propelled walk behinds, but I tell you what. Stepping up to the 30" really allowed me to mow faster and get the yards done in reduced time compared to the 21". The real test for me came during the summer of 2018 going into mid fall 2018. It was our wettest summer on record and usually, August grass is dormant. August here looked like May - lush green grass and raining every 2-3 days consistently. I was facing a lot of growth with grass but not only that, it was wet grass. It was all that the Commercial 30 and I could do to keep up with all that growth. To date, the wettest and thickest grass that 30" has cut and it handled it like a champ. Never once bogged down or choked out. Yeah I had to double cut but it got the job done. I kept the underside of the deck clean as well. That lush growth kept on until about early October, which is later than what it does normally. I am fully convinced that if I still had that Honda - even as good a mower as it is - it would not have made it through that summer. The Commercial 30 handled it all like a champ. It impressed me even more! Something else to consider too - the 30's and 21's you can easily induce a slight positive deck rake to improve airflow for discharge or bagging. You can do this by setting the front wheels at your desired cutting height and run the rear one or two notches above what the front is set. This allows the deck to intake a bit more air and thus boosting discharge, whether it be through the chute or into the bag. Doing this makes the mower a bit more effective. i run my Commercial 30 set up in this manner.

    I am mowing more smaller yards this year and went to Weingart's (Utica) Thursday and bought a Toro Super Recycler. It ran about $900. and I use it to bag grass in small front yards to avoid clippings laying on the lawns. Also it gets me into gates. Prior to this all I used were a 42" and 50" ZTR. Seems to work well. Most customers have yard waste bins in their yards so I can dump the clippings there. BTW, the Toro is self-propelled, great for us old guys.

    In my business we have about 10% of our properties that we have to hand mow partially or entirely. 30 minutes of mow time with the machine tops. Our toro timemaster 30 seemed like the best choice because with only being used a handful of hours a week, it shouldn’t be completely overdoing the mower and cost half as much as the turfmaster

    I got my first push mower to try out this winter in palm coast Florida on st Augustine grass. We have some large oaks around the property. I have the dewalt that takes 2 batteries. Love it being a battery operated, gets a lot of time out of the batteries, cut quality is nice, light weight. Dislike it’s suction ability, doesn’t pull all the leaves as good as gas but that should be expected with a lightweight blade.

    At 3:50 minutes in your video, the Honda HRX217 (w/orange handle cruise control) is the best small walk behind mower I've used. The Honda HRX217 is light, dependable, a true self-propelled mower with cruise control, and goes everywhere that I can't get a stand on or sit down mower. I had the Toro "personal pace" mowers in the past and hated them.

    The first walk behind I bought was a 21 in Toro commercial. That mower is great. Most reliable engine in a mower I have ever used. Everything on it seems to be built well. I picked up a SCAG SFC30 this last year. My dealer m also sells Toro but I felt the feature set in the SCAG was better because you get single lever height adjust, hour meter, higher cc engine, and swivel casters. I kinda wish I saved the $300 and not got the swivel caster add-on. I almost always have the casters locked from swiveling.

Now I've upgraded to the scag 30fc commercial graid walk behind mower. I have put only 3.4 hours on it, yes it has an hour meter on it. I'm liking it so far.

    Exmark 30 inch vs the toro 30 inch is the self propel operation. The Exmark is one speed for fast mowing which might be too fast moving for certain people and the toro goes as fast as you push the handle in which is more controllable.

I am old enough to remember when you could get a great side discharge 20-22" mower that dispersed clippings well. I don't bag anything if I can help it and I don't like being forced to deal with dumping a bag every few minutes and/or handling the clippings after dumping them.

    The Exmark 30 and commercial Toro 30 will beat you up if you're doing 10+ lawns a day. If you're a younger guy or you got a crew, they're great as long as you get one of the Kohler command pro engines with the updated transmission, but they're really too heavy to not have casters if it's your main mower. They really kill your wrists after a while. Skag makes a version of that mower with casters, but I've yet to use one. The residential version of that mower that Toro makes is great. It's got good power, It's much lighter, and the overall ergonomics are superior. Just know that it's residential grade, including the engine. It's not going to last more than a few seasons if you're really running it more than a niche mower. These mowers also do not bag or mulch well, outside of well maintained weekly accounts. If you get one of these mowers to start a small business, it is in your best interest to get a quality bagging/mulching mower as well. I've used them all, and IMO the commercial Honda's are the most durable/reliable, the Toro/Exmarks are the best performers, and the Yravo/badboy is the best your best bang for your buck. They are no longer making Honda's as of last year, and their commercial mowers are very hard to find right now. You can get the Ybravo/Badboy in 25" that is an excelent machine. It really does save you a bit of time, but you lose a bit of torque in the tall or wet stuff. Electric can be done as a niche mower. I use an Echo for wett soggy laws I don't want to tear up, but even with an inverter and a pie of batteries, it's hard to be as productive with them. If I were starting a business on a budget and could only have 1 trim mower, it would be the Ybravo/badboy 21" simply because they bag really well, and if you open up the back of them, the grass comes out at an angle because of the shape of the deck that it fans pretty well and doesn't hit you n the shins if you position yourself out of the way. This allows you to prop it open with something and sorta use it as a side discharge if you encounter an overgrown lawn. It also is an absolute race car in the higher speed setting if you're in shape. You can pick up a gen2 Ybravo 21" for like $1200, and they're worth every penny.

    I have a Scag vride 2. I never use it anymore. Bagging is too much work. I have two employees who just use push mowers. Both my Honda 21” commercial mowers are done so I need to replace them

      I’m not sure but the part availability for the Exmark will be much more prevalent

    Briggs and Stratton boo - I just purchased a lawn mower in the spring, and it won't work. It is a Briggs and Stratton. I clean the carburetor. I prime it, starts and stops.

      Well this video was in March when we just got out of not seeing the sun form like 4.5 months in Michigan lol. During the summer I'm just as tan as anyone else. But, we do strive to keep the sun off us as much as possible, hats and long sleeves at a minimum.

      @@BriansLawnMaintenance good to see a response from a big TH-camr, wasn’t sure if you bathed in sunscreen before starting your day, I try to stay away from that because I’m sure with sweating you’d have to apply it like 5 times a day, maybe I just tan and stay tan easily, thanks

    I bought the 30” toro timemaster (used) and I dropped 300 in it after the first 4 uses. I figured hey it happens… then after getting it out of that shop I had to bring It back in about 2 months later, got it tuned up for about $160. The next day it started fluttering on me and so I instantly blamed the mechanic that serviced it… took it to another small engine mechanic. Paid $150 this time and it worked for about a week and broke down again. Will start up but will die right when I engage the damn blades. They suck ass

    The 30 wide HDX commercial is junk the kawasaki engine won't stay tight to the frame comes loose and messes up the engine mounts and always some issue with the drive system I sold it and bought a 30 wide with the briggs and stratton and it's a step down but a better mower never had any problems with it other then a belt and 1 drive cable over 3 years!!

  • @rozco1978
    @rozco1978 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Careful with the new Honda push mowers. Those GCV170's and 200's have a recall on the decompression cam. It's not a big deal, but ask if it has been updated before buying.
    Also, the cams are plastic in these engines. Not good at all, and there's problems with the drive belt coming off with the self drive system and yes Honda is not making push mowers in North America.
    With the new briggs and statton engines, I wouldn't never buy one. Briggs is no longer, and parts are made cheaply in China and takes time to get if you need repairs.
    Kawasaki and the Commander Kolher would be the only engines out there I would buy these days.
    I've been a small engine mechanic for some time now and keep up on these things.
    Just some information for you

    Why you don’t show the mower prices?
    It will be great to know the prices and compare it.

    • @BriansLawnMaintenance
      @BriansLawnMaintenance 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Honestly we rarely talk prices just because every dealer is different. Some have incentives, different markets have different prices, and frankly dealers can undercut and do whatever they want to earn a sale. Most every brand website has MSRP listed so I would just go with that if you want to see retail pricing.

      There's children that work in every section of the energy industry once you get out of the first world. There's absolutely children working in refineries in places like Syria, Nigeria, Venezuela, Iraq etc. They literally use slaves in the form of North Korean political prisoners in places like Siberia. Then you have offshore rigs where slaves are used in the form of children that were captured in war torn countries in Africa. They work for food, they can't leave, and many of them are neutered to make them more docile. Most of that product doesn't end up in the first world, but our consumption of oil creates these scenarios regardless. Renewable fusion energy along with renewable battery technology in the form of sodium ion is the only way any of this stuff will change anytime soon. With the use of AGI, we're probably less than a decade away, which is why all of these massive companies like Honda, Toyota, GM etc are stopping the production of gas engines. Big big changes are coming, whether people like it or not.
