Thekkady, a city in Kerala's Idukki District, is known for its natural beauty, local communities, and the Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary. The sanctuary is one of India's most biodiverse reserves, covering 250 square miles and including 360 square kilometers of evergreen forest. It's home to herds of wild elephants, deer, and bison that come to drink from the artificial lake created by the Mullaperiyar Dam. The sanctuary is also a haven for hikers and animal lovers, and can be accessed by trekking, boating, or jeep safari.
