  • An fascist America rises up during WWII. How can this happen here the characters ask?
The book is a bit dragging and dated, but the worries are still relevant. As a whole interesting but skimming is recommended.

Appropriate that you end this with "It took me a while to catch on"

You missed every major theme of the book. The book follows Buzz Windrup and his presidential candidacy, and eventual election to the office. The book paints a picture on how he played to the American peoples fears and insecurity to get elected, and then the tactics he used to turn our democracy into a dictatorship, just as had happened in European countries such as germany and Italy. Therefore, showing that American democracy is no more safe from dictatorships than other countries, which is why the book is named "it cant happen here."
As stated above, this review misses the entire point of the book.

This book is very apt given what is going on.

I recently purchased this book due to Trump's ascension. I'm very curious as to how this story plays out while recognizing it was written at a very different point in American history. Thanks for the review!

@4:30+: Quite ironic to hear you make the case that "it can't happen here," that populism wouldn't be an effective vector of fascism.
That irony is of course now punctuated by Trumpism.

Like you, I found the book a bit boring and it took me a long time to read it. The author should have streamlined it a bit.

I would suggest that if Unwritten Reviews is the name of the show you're doing maybe put it like:
    "Unwritten Reviews:"
    rather than
    "Unwritten Reviews!!"
    Other than that, good video.

Interesting you wrote this in October 2016...from what you said in your review it does not appear you were not very politically aware at the time. At this time this is one of the most read dystopian books based on current history and concerns. You focused way too much on the writer's style and not the content of the book.

    I find this review lacking.

All you did was talk about YOUR experience reading the book and pretty much nothing about the book itself. I don't care if it was hard for you, if it took you a long time and you suffer for it, if you felt downgraded by some character or any other nonsense... Please, stop doing videos and wasting others people valuable time.

Utterly useless review of a entirely useful book. Sorry you had a difficult time with the length and the language. I would suggest you not read Shakespeare (please don’t review him!)
